For an accurate valuation you'd really need to take it to a dealer (preferably one specializing in South African coins), but you might be able to find a rough estimate of the value range online if you know what coin you actually have (hint: it's not a "half dollar" because in 1942 South Africa was using British currency denominations in which there are no dollars).
