How long will it take for a fade haircut to grow past shoulder length on a black man?
In answer to your question, it varies based upon a number of different factors. I would say that Genetics, proper Hair Care, Exercise, Diet and using very little heat contribute to how long a woman's hair grows regardless of her ethnicity. If a Black woman has very short to medium-short hair perhaps about two years with of course proper Hair Care, Exercise, using very little heat and Diet. WORDS OF ENCOURAGEMENT: Ladies, please know that it is possible to grow healthy shoulder-length hair if you are Black. Ciao! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- If your completely bald it would take about 2 years for the shortest layer to reach the shoulders. The longest layer would probably be mid-back length by then. Two years on average equals 12 inches of growth. That's the technical answer. In reality because most black women don't know how to properly care for their hair the anwer could very well be "Never." or "A very long time." In my opion most black woman have the potnetial to grow hair to their waist with proper care.

Anyone can wear their hair in a certain way, if they have the style and confidence to pull it off. How do you make an afro curly?
Starting with Straight Hair: 1. Wash and dry your hair. 2. Try a mousse or volumizing cream made for heat if you want to add more texture to your hair. 3. Use a curling iron or curlers to curl your hair. The smaller the curl the better, so use the smallest curling iron you have or the tiniest curlers for the best results. 4. Once your hair is curled, flip your head upside down and spray it with hairspray. Let the hairspray dry before proceeding to styling. Starting with Curly Hair: 1. Wash and dry your hair. 2. Apply a little almond, jojoba, or other oil or cream to your hair for texture and shine. 3. Comb hair a bit with a wide toothed comb and let it air dry. Turning Curls into an Afro with Heat: 1. Blow dry hair on the coolest setting to blow out the waves and curls. 2. Gently comb with a wide toothed comb. 3. Focus on the ends of the hair to shape the afro. If you have straight hair, tease the ends a bit to get them to hold the shape of the afro. 4. Run your fingers through your hair to finish styling, and pat your hair into place with your hands. Turning Curls into an Afro without Heat: 1. Comb curls and waves out with a wide toothed comb. Use a comb one size smaller for further curl separation. 2. When the hair is mostly dry comb it with fingers and pat it into an afro. 3. Set with hairspray if you have straight hair. Afro Styling Tips: 1. Consider using a pick to shape your afro. Instead of shaping it into a dome, pick it out on the sides and make it look like a retro a 50's style pompadour. 2. Use oil in your hair to help increase the shine of your afro, but do not use creams that will flake once they are dry. Your afro and your clothes will be covered in white if you choose to put the wrong styling product on your hair before styling an afro. 3. Braid a piece of hair when you style your hair in an afro to show how long your hair is. The afro is a hair style that can fool the eye and make you look like you have much shorter hair than usual.

Can you use vaseline on dreads?
Yes you can use vaseline on dreads. I would not recommend starting dreads off with vaseline, but if you want to use it to grease your scalp I will use just a little.
If you use too much grease like vaseline, depending on the length and thickness of your dreads, when it's time for a shampoo you will have to use steaming hot water or as hot as you can stand it with shampoo to remove all the grease.
If you are starting dreads off I recommend using beeswax, or beeswax gel,or find a brand that you are comfortable with.

Can you wash your hair when you have dreadlocks?
Yes. Despite the longstanding misconception that you do not wash dreadlocks, having clean hair is a very important factor when it comes to having locks. If the hair does not get washed, the natural grease of the hair will prevent or severely hinder the locking process. However, when washing dreadlocks, you should use a residue-free shampoo, and never use conditioner. Residue-free shampoo does not leave behind scents or chemicals in your hair that would hurt the locking process. Dreadlocks are knotted, matted hair so conditioners would essentially ruin dreadlocks.
Anyone who thinks you do not wash dreadlocks does not know anything about locks.
