Lesson costs vary widely by location, and also by the starting level of the student and of the teacher. Lessons for a school student or amateur, from a music teacher or a mid-level pro who does both gig-playing performances and giving lessons, in the Washington, D.C. area run from $50 and up for one lesson that lasts about 45-50 minutes. But lessons from a high-level professional, for an advanced college student or a professional looking to improve his or her quality, could easily run you $200 a lesson.

It should be noted that the professional who gives a child/student a lesson, who is, say, a high school band director or a player in one of the military bands, is usually himself or herself taking lessons on occasion from someone who has been playing for even longer, or from someone who knows more about the manufacture of the instruments and about repairing them.

Many music stores and individual teachers offer discounts for students who sign up for multiple lessons on a recurring basis, and for those who offer payment for multiple lessons in advance.

Actually not really. With my experiences with them the quality is very inconsistent from horn to horn. Sure there are a few that may work wonders but that chance is slim. I do have to say that they are better than most stencil horns though.

When you play piano, it's a step higher than clarinet because clarinet is not a concert pitched instrument, so you have to take what note is on the piano and lower it one.

Example: You're playing a G on piano and you want to play it on clarinet. You then play an A on clarinet because it's a step higher.

Example 2: You're playing an E on piano and you want to play it on clarinet. You then play an F# on the clarinet.

Check by ear just in case!

When you say Eb (E-flat) minor, you're talking about a chord, which in this case is Eb, Gb, Bb and Eb. When you say Eb major, you're talking about a chord with the notes Eb, G, Bb and Eb. You are probably referring to the pitch of the instrument, which is (at least was in my day, Jazz competition 1963 in Texas, age 13), Bb. Call your local music store and they'll be more than happy to inform you.

The parts of the saxophone include: The Body, The Neck, and The Mouthpiece.

A reed is attached to the saxophone mouthpiece using a ligature.

A major accessory is the neck strap. While it isn't always necessary, it allows much easier playing for a saxophonist.

It is made of brass

They are typically made of brass ever since they were first created. Even though they are made of brass they are still considered woodwinds because of the reed. However, other materials have been used to construct saxophones. In the 1950's the Grafton Saxophone was made which was an alto saxophone made out of plastic. They only ever made alto saxophones. Yanagisawa and Bauhaus Walstein made saxophones out of phosphor bronze because it changed the tone of the notes. Later, Yanagisawa made necks, bells and then entire bodies out of sterling silver. Keilwerth and P. Mauriat have made saxophones out of nickel silver, the same material used to make a flute.

Went to a bar the other day that let people up on stage who brought their instruments. We played Bad to the Bone with me on my alto. I only played the repetative series of five notes so I'm not sure if that's what you're wanting but it's worth a shot. You should know what part of the song I'm talking about after you play the notes together. The notes are(all of them without the octive and are natural): E A E G E Hope that's what you're wanting. =]

He obviously has lots of saxophones but the only clue I've got is for his Alto Sax, his primary alto is Selmer Mark VI.

The volume of a saxophone is loud because it is made of brass, even though it is in the woodwind family. It is in the wood wind family because it uses a reed and uses all ten fingers to play.

Playing the bass clarinet is not a very good way to become famous. The bass clarinet is usually played as a second or third instrument by reed men - clarinetists or saxophonists. Bass clarinet specialists include Todd Marcus, Michael Pilz and Jacob Stein.

Jazz players who used the bass as one of their primary instruments include Eric Dolphy and Benny Maupin. More famous names who occasionally played the bass clarinet include jazz clarinetist Benny Goodman, Duke Ellington's bari sax player Harry Carney, and jazz flautist Herbie Mann.

I don't know but my friend once tried to get the notes for Dr Who on violin and it cost £60. So I wouldn't bother with sheet music and just try it by thinking of the notes and trying to match them with the sax. That's what I do and it helps you memorise the notes without having to read from the sheet.
