I have taken both of these at the same time. These were prescribed by two doctors. Then, about 6 weeks later, I was admitted to the hospital with pseudomembranous colitis, toxic megacolon, diverticulitis, and sepsis. They did not hold out much hope that I would live. My colon was removed and I did survive to go through 5 more surgeries.

It takes a doctor 7 years to train to understand what is wrong with you and how to treat you for medical problems on an individual basis. What makes you thing it is safe for you to take medicines yourself? You can not know what is actually wrong with you or what is the correct treatment for you. Also, if you take antibiotics when not needed or incorrectly, you contribute to these medicines becoming ineffective (for everyone) as bacteria learn to tolerate them. Do not self medicate.

I was to see the doctor last week and the doctor said the most an adult can take per day is 1000 mg so I would have the prescription checked for error

It's an antibiotic. No antibiotics can treat pain directly. You can reason that it can help with the pain associated with infections because it's getting rid of the infection, but that can take days.

Clavulanic acid is an antibiotic, which selectively blocks the betalactamase enzyme. So the amoxicillin is left free to kill the bacteria, which produce betalactamase enzyme. For this advantage, clavulanic acid is added with amoxicillin.

This may be the phenomenon of drug mixing. By this phenomena amoxicillin is mixed with clavulinic acid and the longetivity or the intensity of drug action is increased in that particular area. i was worried if i DIDN'T give her anything, either A. she would cough so hard she would go into early labor, or B. she would give birth and would still not be over kennel cough and then would pass it on to the puppies, which could be fatal since they are too young to receive the vaccine and they have low immune systems.
