How to Rewire a Lamp?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

The light socket normally connects to the wire by means of two screws which when screwed in will press the wire down onto a copper contact plate. Strip about an inch, possibly two inches of insulation off the end of your new wire, connect it to the socket, thread it through the lamp (every lamp has its own particular structure, but there is always some kind of hollow space through which a wire can be pulled) and behold, you have rewired your lamp.

What is the value of an 1886 school bell from Lakeside Foundry of Chicago?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

According to the American Bell Association International forum, this bell is probably worth $200-300, depending on condition.

Lakewood Foundry of Chicago was owned and operated in Erie, PA, by Montgomery Ward c.1904-1920. The foundry primarily made stoves and related cast iron parts. Bells bearing the Lakewood Foundry name are believed to have been manufactured by a third-party, but branded for sale through Wards, Sears and other retailers.

The origin of your bell is uncertain because Montgomery Ward prohibited foundries from including their mark on the product; however, if the words "crystal metal" are stamped anywhere on the bell, it may have been manufactured by C. S. Bell Co. of Hillsboro, Ohio. There were a huge number of foundries operating during the "iron age" that contracted each others services as needed. This makes tracing the foundry responsible for creating your bell difficult to impossible.

What does 924 mark on silver mean?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Technically, this figure is 1/1000 of a percentage point below the necessary .925 to be considered Sterling Silver. This means that 92.4% of an object is silver (Ag), with 7.6% being another metal, usually copper (Cu).

Coin silver, defined by the National Stamping Act of 1906, was by definition at least 90% silver and was used in the form of melted coins by Native American silversmiths to make the treasured squash blossoms and bracelets of the classic period of 1900 - 1950.

Where can you buy an antique firearm?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

you would go to an antique store the employe there will tell you the value of the guns and you might be able to sell them there but im not sure In order to be considered an antique according to the federal government, they must have been manufactured before January 1, 1899. If you can't prove it is older, the Feds assume it is newer and you have to jump through their hoops to sell it. Some states have even more restrictive laws, so check with a licensed firearms dealer. First you need to identify the guns. The Standard Catalog of Firearms would probably be the first book to get. Your local library should have a copy. It will also give you some good information on how to determine the condition of the guns, and that is the key to the value. Then, if they are really antique, you can sell them yourself on one of the online auction sites (antiqueguns.com, gunbroker.com, gunsamerica.com). If they are not antiques, you can still handle most of the sale yourself, but you will have to turn the guns over to a licensed dealer to ship them to a dealer in the buyer's home state (and both dealers will want to be paid for their services). In most states, you can put an ad in the local paper and sell them face-to-face as long as the buyer is over 18 and you have no reason to believe he is prohibited (felony conviction, under a restraining order, mentally incompetent, etc) from owning a firearm.

How is an antique Persian rug cleaned?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Antique Persian rugs should be handled with care. THey can be cleaned by lightly vacuuming them. If you spill liquids on it, use paper towels to absorb as much of it as possible then use water only (no soap or other cleaning solutions) to clean what is left. If a stain remains you should probably contact a specialist.

How can you tell if an antique is real?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Determing the condition (or grade) of a coin requires three things: Experience, References and being able to visually inspect the item. Some would argue that visual inspection is not necessary and can be accomplished utilizing photographs. Unfortunately, lighting plays a key factor in hiding/exposing flaws on a coin depending on the reflection and angle. There are many references available, both on the Internet and printed media, to assist in the grading of coins. Simply use any search engine, type the words "Coin Grading" and you will have a host of links to choose from. A good printed source is "The Official American Numismatic Association Grading Standards for United States Coins". This book has reference pictures, as well as, descriptions for each coin in each grade. Whichever resource you choose, ensure that they follow the grading guidelines established by the American Numismatic Association (ANA). Last, but probably most importantly, experience is the key in assigning a grade to a coin. Novice collectors, with some practice, can become quite accurate in determining grades for circulated coins (G-4 through AU-50). It becomes much more difficult when assigning grades for Uncirculated coins (MS-60 through MS-70) or Proof coins (PF-60 through PF-70) and the assistance of an experienced coin collector or trusted coin dealer should be sought. Another option that is available is to have the coin graded by a third-party grading service. For a fee, the grading service will grade the coin, place it in a protective case with it's identifying information and then sonically seal the case to preserve the coin. There are many services to choose from, some reputable and some not. Seek the assistance of a knowledgable collector or dealer in determing a service to use.
