Hi, one of my pet finches in an aviary has over the last few weeks began to peck all over the floor most of the day. The floor is yellow sand and of course seeds dropped from the feeding trays. It is most unusual as he always flew away when I approached the cage, now he is totally preoccupied with whatever he is pecking at. There have been ants, but I can't see any at the moment. There in the oreder Mutilidae and surprisingly they are not actually ants, there actually wasps, the males have wings and fly but dont have stingers, the females are wing-less and dont sting. the males are more rare than females. Firstly, ants hve an increatable little weight for their size.So gravity does not affect them very much.Secondly, ants have little things like fingers at the end of their legs so that they can grab ledges of the surfces even little ones.Finally in nature there are not totlly vertical surfaces so even them who seem to be very vertical they are not and ant climb on them by grabbing the ledges with their fingers.
