Is a unripe pear as sweet as a ripe pear?
Though ripeness doesn't affect a fruit's calorie count, it does affect the amount of sugar it contains. The more ripe a fruit is, the more concentrated its sugars become. The bottom line is; snacking on super-sweet fruit raises your insulin levels -- which will cause you to be hungry again more quickly. Even worse, high insulin levels cause your body to go into fat-storage mode.

We see colour because the normal white light is made up different wavelengths. Objects absorb certain wavelengths of light while reflecting others. An apple, reflects the red wavelength while absorbing all the other colours and so it appears colour red.

Why does apple turn black after cutting it?
When an apple is cut (or bruised), oxygen is introduced into the injured plant tissue. When oxygen is present in cells, polyphenol oxidase (PPO) enzymes in the chloroplasts rapidly oxidize phenolic compounds naturally present in the apple tissues to o-quinones, colorless precursors to brown-colored secondary products. O-quinones then produce the well documented brown color by reacting to form compounds with amino acids or proteins, or they self-assemble to make polymers.

What happens if you leave an apple out too long?
Well it depends for how long you leave it for. If it is for weeks or more it is best not to because harmful bacteria or mould could grow on it. However, if you are referring to a few hours, there is an enzyme in apples which react with the oxygen in the air when exposed to it (sliced), which turns it brown, making it look rather unappetizing. In addition, it will probably get more dry and less juicy the longer you leave it, but it won't actually harm you to eat a brown apple!
