April Fools' Day historically ends at noon, which is commonly referred to as "official pranking hours" because it was believed that any pranks played after that time could bring bad luck. This tradition may have originated from the change in the calendar in the 16th century, when New Year's Day moved from the end of March to January 1st. Those who still celebrated New Year's in late March were considered foolish, and their pranks were confined to the morning only.

So they make paper fishes and put a loop of sticky tape on the back, sticky side on the outside, and hide them in their hands so that when they greet each other the fishes get stuck on the victim's back! This is why in France April Fools day is called 'poisson d'Avril' (literally April fish)!

The word "Holiday" goes way back hundreds, (or thousands), of years. The word accually means, "Holy day" and meant times of religious celabration. Now it is commonly used as a replacment for times such as Christmas and Thanksgiving in an attempt to eliminate God from the picture. Long ago, New Years was celebrated on April 1st. When it was switched to January 1st, the people who still celebrated on April first were called fools, and people since that time can trick people that day!

Since 1875, Palm Sunday has been on April 1 in the years 1917, 1928, 2007 and 2012. It will be on April 1 again in 2091.

April Fool's Day, as far as I'm concerned, is celebrated in most parts of the world. I celebrate it here in North America.

This is a fabulous new trick no one will suspect. (Make sure no one is home while creating this prank!)

Get a couple leaves of red cabbage and boil them in 2 or 3 cups of water, until the water has turned purple. Next, add some ice cubes to cool the water. Get out a few cups and add the cabbage water to the cups. Add a Tablespoon of flour to each cup, and mix it up until it looks like grape juice. Add a few drops of food coloring or more flour if needed. Next, get a card (like one you send in the mail on a birthday or something) and make sure it is blank. On the cover, write "Grape juice, for you!" And on the inside write "Enjoy!". Then on the back (where no one will see it) Write "April fools!" Or if this is just an ordinary prank, just write "PRANK'D! :) Hehe" on the back. Then leave it out until your victim comes along unsuspectingly and drinks it. It is sure to gross them out! Extra points if the person hates cabbage!

• Put lots of soap on your hands and walk over to your victims door and wipe the soap over both doorhandles and close the door. When they go to their room they will get greasy fingers.

• Write a note with "APRIL FOOLS!!" and fold it once. Go up to the front door of your house and place the paper on the front of the door. Knock on the door and run where they can't see you and where you can see them. Watch as they answer the door and walk out after they read the note (If it doesn't work do it again) walk out and laugh, say 'April Fools!'

• Put baby powder or flour in the victims hair dryer. When they dry their head it will be covered in flour like an old person!

• This is the ultimate, most awesome, hilarious, best joke to do on ANYONE!!! It will work better if your victim is really buff and strong and acts like he is so awesome. Like a marine or army or navy guy.

  Step One:

  When they are asleep, grab a video recorder (optional, but you would want to see this over and over again!), shaving cream, a feather or something thin and ticklish, decorative supplies, and that's all!

  Step Two:

  Rub the shaving cream near the victim's *nose, and face. Next decorate his face! Put red powder for blush, draw something into the cream, BE CREATIVE! Careful not to laugh or this joke is off!

  Step Three:

  It's the funniest step! Scream, "There are slugs all over your face!" while tickling the feather at the nose! You can yell anything else that is slimy like worms, saliva, anything! It will startle the victim and he will smack his face! This will get shaving cream all over him! He will be so confused!

Then in 1562, Pope Gregory introduced a new calendar for the Christian world, and the new year fell on January first. There were some people, however, who hadn't heard or didn't believe the change in the date, so they continued to celebrate New Year's Day on April first. Others played tricks on them and called them "April fools." They sent them on a "fool's errand" or tried to make them believe that something false was true.

The practice began during the reign of Constantine, when a group of court jesters and fools told the Roman emperor that they could do a better job of running the empire. Constantine, amused, allowed a jester named Kugel to be king for one day. Kugel passed an edict calling for absurdity on that day, and the custom became an annual event.

"In a way," explained Prof. Boskin, "It was a very serious day. In those times fools were really wise men. It was the role of jesters to put things in perspective with humor."

This explanation was brought to the public's attention in an Associated Press article printed by many newspapers in 1983. There was only one catch: Boskin made the whole thing up. It took a couple of weeks for the AP to realize that they'd been victims of an April Fools' joke themselves.

One explanation is this: When the calendar was changed so that the year would begin on January 1 instead of March 25, some people stubbornly clung to the old tradition. Those who started their New Year celebration on the old date in March and continued into April were referred to as April fools.
