Why aspirin gives voilet clr with ferric chloride?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Ferric chloride, or iron(III) chloride will not react with aspirin. It will, however, react with salicylic acid, which is used to synthesize aspirin. In this light, adding an aqueous ferric chloride solution to a sample of aspirin is a good way to see if there is any unreacted salicylic acid. A purple color is an indication of salicylic acid. A sample of pure aspirin should not exhibit any color change.

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Film coat is only coating that prevents the bitter taste while taking the medicinea nd protects the tablet from microbial growth. and color change.

Enteric coat means (Enteric=Small intestine) this enteric coated tablet dissolved in only in small intestine. That means this type of coating prevents the drug release in other parts of the body. It will reacts with only small intestine fluids and get dissolved in 10mg concept. like 100mg tablet: 10mg>20mg>30mg>.......100mg complete dissolve.

Is there an expiry date for the aspirin?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Generally drug expiration dates can be viewed the same as 'Sell By' dates; they are a reference for when the product may no longer be 100%. In the case of drugs, that implies less effective. Actual shelf life will depend on storage conditions and the ingredients. Medications that are liquid or contain active ingedients will be more prone to degradation. Aspirin will usually remain effective a long while after the expiration date likely only with increasing ineffectiveness.

Is aspirin gluten free?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Who tbe heck knows. It seems like a simple question but it is apparently not. Next time. I see a willow tree i'm harvesting some leaves to make my own tea for headaches like people used to do before big drug companies. The law says drugs do not have to state whether it has or has not. Advil is the only site that confirms it has gluten. This conflicts with glutenfreedrugs website. Advice is to call the company...right. Nothing in writing, idiot who answers phone might not really know...or care...or have time. I have a headache and really not in the mood for doing research on a freaking aspirin that should really not have wheat to begin with....but that is what our law says is okay. Fillers are made from starch, coatings for extended release have gluten to protect from stomach acid...at the expense of small intestine leak. And bleeding...no thanks.
