Are Yorkies bad for kids with asthma?
Not just Yorkies, all dogs shed, so if your child is allergic to dogs then keep him away from ALL dogs. Not just Yorkies, even if they tend to shed a lot too.
It all depends on the individual. My children and I have asthma and our Yorkie doesn't bother us at all. I do bathe him every couple days as well as take him to the groomer every other month, just to keep all of our allergies in check (even his!)
The actual term asthma is a Greek word that is derived from the verb aazein, meaning to exhale with open mouth, to pant.
The expression asthma appeared for the first time in the Iliad, with the meaning of a short-drawn breath, but the earliest text where the word is found as a medical term is the Corpus Hippocraticum.
However it is difficult to determine whether in referring to "asthma," Hippocrates and his school (460-360 B.C.) meant an autonomous clinical entity or simply a symptom. The best clinical description of asthma in later antiquity is offered by the master clinician, Aretaeus of Cappadocia (1st century A.D.). The numerous mentions of "asthma" in the extensive writings of Galen (130-200 A.D.) appear to be in general agreement with the Hippocratic texts and to some extent with the statements of Aretaeus.

What is common ly used to treat asthma?
There are many different ways that people treat asthma. Asthma is a chronic condition, which means that it doesn't have a "cure" that will make it go away forever. Most people carry an inhaler with them that has the appropriate medication (a popular one is called Albuterol) that they use whenever their asthma starts to act up. Some people have allergy-induced asthma and take a pill to help with allergies, thus preventing them from an asthma attack. There is also a daily steroid inhaler called Advair. Advair is inhaled through the mouth either once or twice a day. Advair is very successful at preventing asthma attacks and small flares like chronic wheezing. Other than over-the-counter allergy medicine, all asthma inhalers are prescription medications.
What is a good diet for people with asthma?
anything.. it doesn't really matter. There isn't like a certain food you can't or can eat. Like basically asthmetic people and people who don't have asthma can have the same eating habits :) hope that answers your question.. lol
How do you relieve your asthma when it is really bad and an inhaler and steroids for it do not work?
When you say inhaler and steroids do not work, I assume you are talking about steroids like Advair. If that is the case oral steroids are the answer, at least that is what I use. Prednisone or prednisolone. Some professionals believe prednisolone is more effective. It is 20% stronger. Example: 8mg prednisolone equals 10mg prednisone. In effect your liver converts prednisone into prednisolone, or so it was explained to me. However, you don't want to use either on a regular basis if you can help it. The long term side effects are not so nice.

from personal experience, it sucks. I have always been allergic to my pug, but I take prescription meds. to deal with it, and wash my hands after I touch him.
In his old age he has taken to using our living room as a toilet, which is very weird for him, but he seems to be loosing his mind a bit (he's 13 and we wont re-home him). We try to clean it as well as we can, but short of having the carpets cleaned professionally (we can, it's our family business) there's not much you can do about it, even then I would seriously consider replacing the carpet completely.
It's gotten to the point that my asthma acts up when I sit in our living room for more than a few hours. I feel like I'm getting a cold (that's how my asthma usually presents its self), and have been using my rescue inhaler about once a week for a few weeks now, and we're preparing to clean the carpets for the second time in two months. When the little dear's time comes, we're replacing our carpets, but not a moment sooner. Avoid this situation at all costs!
Can giving asthma medication to a non asthmatic cause harm?
Well I have asthma and I have been told to never give my medication to others. This is prescribed medication and its illegal to give to others. It can cause harm to their lungs. If this person had a time where they lost their breath and couldn't breath, consult a doctor.
If there is any chance to get addicted of asthma inhaler?
The compounds in asthma inhalers (rescue type fast acting, long term multiple use, epi, steroids) are not clinically addictive in that they do not modify the body's function in such a way that normal function can only be achieved by chronic dosage -- the old definition of "addiction". These meds, however, have the potential to be habituating. Think of it this way: * You feel bad * You take a relatively fast-acting medication * you feel better This is the formula for a behaviorist's training pattern, isn't it? Note that, chocolate works well in this pattern too :} I'd hesitate to call this addictive, but habituating? Yes, potentially.
Does asthma make breathing hard?
your bronchioles swell up which restricts the amount of oxygen going into your lungs.
What is the difference between hyperventilation and asthma?
Hyperventilation is rapid breathing which is caused by muscle contractions, particularly the diaphragm which is triggered by the phrenic nerve. Asthma, on the other hand, is associated with spasmodic smooth muscle contraction of the bronchiole tubes in the lungs. In hyperventilation you can breathe quickly in and out. In asthma you have a hard time breathing out, exhaling.
