In January 2009, M. Shadows confirmed that the band is writing the follow-up to their self titled album. They planned to start writing in June, 2009 and on July 15, 2009, their website and MySpace page was updated with a statement from M. Shadows saying that work on the album had been started, although it was just ideas being played around with.
It has been rumoured the album will be out by the middle of next year, however i don't know how reliable that is.

What type of music is Avenged Sevenfold?
Part rock, part nu-metal (non-metal). Rock, yes, of the hardcore alternative variety. Screamy in some parts, but their earlier album has a lot more of a melodic feel, interestingly enough. The lead singer (M. Shadows) had something happen to his vocal chords after one of their concerts in the time of their first album, giving him a really raspy sound. It's sort of nasally. More screaming, then, in subsequent albums; when he does croon a ballad, he sounds sort of strange.
