Yes, of course you can. If you are very serious about ballet as a career, I think it would be a bit too late to start from scratch. But if you want to do ballet because you enjoy it or you just want to learn the style, I would recommend joining. It takes quite a long time before you can reach an advanced (pointe shoe) standard, but if you are just looking for a fun hobby, dance is really fun and I have been doing it for the past 10 years (I am 12).

At most dance studios, they have a rosin box where you rosin your tap shoes so they're not slippery. Simply step in the rosin in your ballet shoes for a short amount of time and you should be good to go.

To tell a story through movement, usually between partners or as a group, it is a talent and a beauty to be a ballet dancer , i admire them. The Significance is to make you feel like what you are watching is art, Ballet is like any other song you listen to , film or play you watch, it is pure entertainment and i love it.

Cecchetti was invented in Italy by a man who gave the method his name. It is incredibly different from French and Russian Ballet! It is considered an offense to ever mix the three in definition.

I was in London last week and I went to all 3 of the ballet shops on Drury Lane. There was a great sale on in Bloch and I got a lovely leotard there, they had a large selection on leotards and shoes and I would recommend going there but the woman working there wasn't very helpful. Dancia International was second best and it stocked a lot more than just leotards and shoes but I found the leotards were better in Bloch. Sansha wasn't great- a very small shop, with not much room and not a huge selection! Sorry this is a very long reply, but I think Bloch is the best ballet shop on Drury Lane! Happy shopping!

George Balanchine was the renown and famous Russian choreographer, founder of the School of American Ballet and the New York City Of Ballet. He composed countless works for his company. And not only. But he changed the whole look and feel of ballet. He was primarily more responsible for making ballet more like modern dance. Although he was best known for his interpretation of "The Nutcracker," he prefered ballet without costumes and plots. Dance that just spoke for itself. He was a mentor and a father figure to super-star dancers such as Edward Villella, Peter Martins, Suzanne Farrell and Gelsey Kirkland. Seeing as how he never had children of his own, he treated the dancers in his company like his own kids. He died in 1983 of complications from a terminal disease. Discipile Peter Martins was made the sole heir to the City Ballet and the School of American Ballet. Martins retired form dancing in 1983 to run the companies as absolute chairman. And to choreograph.

You can join a variety of academies at any age, but at major ballet companies, I don't think you can. It's like a 14 year old joining a major company in sales or something. Although, you can probably join the major company's academies. AND there's always a first for everything. :)
