I am writing a barcode scanner system.

First, I print barcodes like QR Code and Data Matrix on paper. Then scan these barcodes with a hardware barcode scanner. This scanner must read the barcode and verify its validity. Some organizers may want to verify ticket validity offline or online..

-Do I need a windows based app (so do something with windows forms?)?

- the scanned data from the scanner is sent to a PC...can I with VB.NET receive that data and pass it to an online app/server to verify the validity realtime?

Best possible result that worked wonders for me is if you have a printer/scanner, scan them on to your computer. Bring them up on the computer and scan them from there. And/or if you would like as well is, bring the barcodes up in print preview, see how they will turn out on paper, preferably "blown up" meaning bigger than their original size, and then print them out, and then put them under some really good lighting, and then scan them that way as well. If you don't always want to bother with scanning them from your computer. It did for me, good luck!
