With many of the key players of the "Machine" still on this ball I'm sure the price of the 1977 Reds will rise. In fact I think Perez is the only key signature of the "Machine" missing. Collectors that can't handle the high price of the most sought after 1975 baseball will start spending money on the lesser priced baseballs surrounding 1975 driving the price up. It won't take long for the prices to go up, if it hasn't happened already. If the Reds put together a couple of winning years, or win a championship this process will quicken as it will rekindle interest in the older baseballs. Well, there are four 2's, four 4's, four 6's, four 8's, four 10's, and four jacks, four queens, and four kings. Jacks, queens and kings are all 10's. So, there are 42 even numbers. If not including the jack, queens and kings then there are 20.

Signatures that have not been properly authenticated could sell at half the market value or less In the early 1980s Mickey Mantle worked as Director of public relations for the Dallas Reserve Life Insurance Company. Mickey Mantle was the guest of honor, and speaker at numerous events, and insurance association business meetings. Reserve Life would hold quarterly insurance association meetings in Dallas, Texas and Mickey was the guest speaker in 1984/85. At these events Mickey would personally sign these 4" x 6" sized baseball cards. The baseball "business" cards were also used to help promote the Life insurance company. Sometimes Reserve Life would also send these cards through the mail signed by Mickey Mantle. The bulk of the value on most collectible baseball bats relies on player endorsements. Without a player endorsement, the value will rely on vintage baseball bat features such as a decal, or special features such as a mushroom knob, a ring bat, ornate engraving, etc. At the present time softball bats have very little collectible value if any. The age of your bat could give it some value if the bat is in good contion.

Probably nothing.....i had boxes about the '81 world series and the '91 world series and i had 8 with michael jorden and nobody wanted them...even collectors or even ebay. I gave them all to goodwill. Broke my heart! Maybe they can get a nickel for each one from a grandma that is looking for a christmas present for little jimmy.

Other key factors include type of ball (is it an "Official American League" ball?), whether there are any "clubhouse signatures" (autographs signed for players by ballboys, attendants, etc), and number of signatures present. The authenticity of the Mantle & Maris signatures are of particular importance. Your ball is not an "Official AL," so that hurts value a bit and also raises more concern about the possibilty of clubhouse signatures. These factors, plus the authenticity of key signatures are the main variables in determining value. With autographs, a picture is truly worth the proverbial thousand words, and can save alotta time in the authenticating, appraisal, and selling process.

There are many photos of Babe Ruth, and Lou Gehrig like you describe. Today there are mass produced 8 x 10 photos that can be easily bought for about $10. All photos will have a value but It all depends on what type of photo you have. The value of your photo will rely on if it is an original first generation photo made from the original negative, a snap shot taken, a news service photo, or a wire photo printed off a teletype machine. All are highly collectible, and can sell between $20. -$200. in general.

The photo could also be from a magazine premium or a team released photo sent to fans.
