it all depends. if the starting pitcher goes 5ins or more and leaves the game with the lead he is in-titled to the win. the way the closer gets the win is if he goes in tied or losing and he is the last one to throw a pitch before his team takes the lead and wins the game.

Professional softball players are paid less than professional baseball players because softball is not as popular as baseball.

Baseball has a much bigger market in the economy, as proven by the baseball stadiums, playing cards, t-shirts, and hats. Because of all the profits that these things generate, they are able to pay their players more.

Softball does not have this kind of publicity, and there for the money that flows into the organizations involved in the sport do not draw as much money either. Because they do not draw as much revenue as the baseball organizations, they are not able to pay their players as much as baseball players get paid.

In addition, it would have been redundant to have them play the game, because not only were the Devil Rays 48 games back, but the Red Sox, who finished second in the East, were 10.5 games back going into the postseason.

Similarly, the Twins and Tigers did not make up a postponed game due to the Twins' massive lead in the AL Central. In addition, the Braves, Phillies, and Mets also did not play full seasons (the Braves played only 160, as a matter of fact.).

The Philadelphia Phillies have a current all-time won-loss record of 9067 wins and 10114 losses. However, 2014 isn't over yet so this will change. Also, they played several years in the 1800s as the Quakers. So, the franchise record is actually 9457-10538.

Both leagues experimented with the rule in 1969, but only the American League decided to adopt it, in 1973. The American League's thinking was that pitching was too strong, and hitting had become moribund--in 1968 Bob Gibson had an ERA of 1.12, and Carl Yastrzemski hit .301--the only batter in either league to average .300. The owners wanted to add more offense to the game, for the usual reason--they thought the fans wanted more hits and more home runs. The National League decided it was more in the spirit of the game for all players to play both in the field and at the plate, so they never adopted the DH rule. I'm more in sympathy with the NL, myself. Also, there's no real evidence that the DH really increased overall offense. Only one DH has ever won the home run title (Jim Rice) and only one DH has ever won the batting title (Edgar Martinez.)

I'm not sure of the exact number but Joe Torre played and managed the most games before appearing and winnig his first World Series while managing the '96 Yankees. Players Joe Niekro and Mike Morgan both played 21 seasons before making their first World Series, Niekro with the Twins in 1987 and Morgan with the Diamondbacks in 2002.
