There are many nasty chemical treatments you can use, however heat is the only chemical free and assured way to kill bed bugs. I mean LOTS of heat. Isolate the mattress (as the little nasties will contaminate everything from curtains to carpets to clothes) and anything else that has come in contact with it. Put any bedsheets in a plastic sealed bag and throw them in the bin or wash in boiling water. Tape up windows and any cracks or crevaces in the room and steam the buggers! Often if the infestation is severe, the best treatment is to dispose of the mattress and steam treat the room itself. Vacuums will transport eggs/larvae so dont use it or you are just spreading the problem.

Though bed bugs prefer to come out only at night, to bite you in your bed while you sleep (generally in the small hours of the night), they WILL bite you at any time of day if they are hungry and you are around. If you are not sleeping in your bed, or have made it hard for them to bite you at night, then this is inevitable. They prefer to bite at nighttime, in the dark, but will bite in broad daylight if they have to.

Bedbugs eat the blood of humans. They do this by crawling on to the body of a person, usually while that person is asleep in their bed during the night. They bedbug can detect the CO2 the sleeping person breathes out. After crawling along the sheet the bedbug climbs on to on to a part of the person's body, usually a limb. to have its meal.

The bedbug will pierce their skin and inject an anaesthetic and coagulant into the person's blood stream. That means the person will not feel anything while the bedbug then inserts a tiny tube into the person's bloodstream and starts sipping a small quantity of the sleeping person's blood which comes out of the person slowly because of the effect of the coagulant.
