What is the point of beds why don't we just sleep on mattresses on the ground?
well if we did sleep on mattresses on the ground then bugs would come up on you more often. and beds make it much more comfy. Because the boogie man would then have no place to hide, and get you in the night. OK, that's far-fetched. Let's try again!
A lot has to do with comfort, protection against moisture, etc., however the below can shed some light on the issue.
A bed (listen) is a piece of furniture or location primarily used as a place to sleep, though it is also regularly used to serve other functions as well, such as providing the primary place for sexual intercourse, and is often used for simple relaxation.
To make beds more comfortable, the top layer is frequently a mattress. Originally these were bags of straw for most people and filled with feathers for the wealthy.[citation needed] Eventually new fillings such as cotton and artificial fillers became common. In modern times most mattresses use springs, solid foam, latex, water, or air. As time passes more and more people are looking for a better sleep, spending a large percentage of our life in a bed it has become a more recent realisation for many to attribute health deteriorations to what they lay on. Water resiliant fibres (natural and synthetic), latex, synthetic foams and a combination of a huge range of different spring technologies all have their different benefits.
The second layer is the box spring Inner-sprung Base. The box spring or "divan" is a large mattress-sized box containing wood and springs that provide additional support and suspension for the mattress. Adding this feature to the mattress it has been calculated that it improves the overall life of the unit by 68%.
The third layer is the bed frame. The bed frame lifts the mattress/mattress-box spring off the ground.
A dust ruffle, bed skirt, or valance sheet may be used to make the bed frame match the rest of the bedding.
For greater head support, most people use a pillow, placed at the top of a mattress. Also used is some form of covering blanket to provide warmth to the sleeper, often bed sheets, a quilt, or a duvet.
Also, some people prefer to dispense with the box spring and bed frame, and replace it with a platform bed style. This is more common in the European region.

How much does a pillow top queen mattress and box springs weigh?
Depends on the number of springs and thickness of the mattress. And whether you're using a foundation or box springs. Mine is a Beautyrest and weighs in at about 85 pounds for the mattress and I'm guessing about 40 pounds for the box springs. I have picked up foundations that weigh less than 30 pounds, but I wouldn't want to own them. I was told that some of the non-flippable queen mattresses can weigh in the hundred pound range or better. I can see why they're non-flippable.

How will my queen mattress fit through doorway and corner?
The mattress itself has some flexibility, and should bend when carried around the corner. You may, however, need to replace the box spring with a split box for queen mattresses (two pieces that fit side by side under the mattress); the narrower profile is more maneuverable in tight spaces.
I do remember that! And no matter how ridiculous or nasty the caller's suggestions were, the hotel clerk sounded enthusiastic about it! ("Ya know, my wife only has one eye...")
It's on a one-sided 12" vinyl single that was put out in the early 90s on Scat Records called The Subjectivist League. It was renamed Jerky after one pressing (probably after The Jerky Boys started to get famous), and it's been out of print for years. (Johnny Brennan denies that the Jerky Boys had anything to do with that release. If that's true, then whoever did The Subjectivist League were skilled imitators.)

It depends on how much you intend to bend the mattress and the type of mattress. Many modern mattress manufacturers offer king- and (less commonly) queen-sized mattresses with hinges in their frames to allow them to be temporarily bent to, say be moved to the second story of a home through a tight stairwell. With smaller mattress sizes, you really should not bend the mattress beyond 10 or 15 degress (and even that is stretching it for some brands).
