A Queen-sized bed is 60 x 80 inches (or 153 x 203 cm). When I make quilts intended to be bedspreads, I make them about 96 x 108 inches, or 8 feet by 9 feet. This allows an 18-inch overhang on each side and a little more at the foot of the bed. Hopes this helps.

I must confess, though, the current quilt I am working on is a Queen bedspread and I am doing it 96 x 102.

dave I measured my queen bed to make a bedspread (not quilt) the bed is 60 inches wide by 78 long then I measured from top of bed to floor which was 26 inches. I will make the bedspread 112 wide by 136 long as I want to cover pillows with spread and this should give me extra to tuck under. So I'll purchase 118 wide fabric at 4 yds. If I wanted to make shams I would make it 104 inches long. I did make a king size quilt which was 126 x 126 so it was just above the floor and I had made shams for it.

take up 12 inches of the sheet at the edge about 45 degrees, place it at the top of the bed, fold under the remaining sheet. take the sheet you have place on top of the bed, and fold it under the bed. do the same for the other corners.

A standard full size mattress is 54 inches wide. Some brands, such as Serta are actually about 53 inches wide. We just acquired an old bed frame that is only 52 inches wide and face the same problem with finding a narrow full size mattress. We plan to go to a mattress store with the tape measure and see what we can find.

The standard measurements of a king size bed is 76 by 80 inches. This is close to the size of a queen bed that is 60 by 80 inches.
