The old ferrule is cut off, the tip is cleaned, and the new ferrule is applied using cement. After this has dried, the cue tip must be applied and clamped. After the cement for the cue tip has dried, the cue tip need to be properly finished.

You pick a cue that suits you in weight, length, tip size and composition. Some will tout different brands, sizes and weights but in the end it is personal choice to what you like and feel good shooting with.

To mark any pool table(as they vary by manufacturer in exact size,)first measure the width of the slate then half this measurement. This is the spot mark, (which should be the centre point between the middle pockets and the corner pockets in an imaginary cross between the pockets). IE if the table is 39" wide,then measure from the edge of the slate,19.5"up the table and place the spot mark 19.5" from the edge of the table where the measurements meet.This is the exact spot mark. The line (baulk line) is one fifth of the slates length from the edge of the cushion. IE if the slate is 75" long then a fifth of this is 15"...measure 15" up the table from the edge of the cushion,place a mark on both sides and draw your baulk line. centre of baulk line spot will be 19.5". Sounds more complicated than it is and its easy to do but harder to explain. This method works for any pool table size up to 8' as far as i know. Hope this helps.

In the US, whether you are referring to 8 Ball, 9 Ball, or Straight Pool you most likely need the American Poolplayer's Association (APA) rules. This is the largest governing body for these in the US. There are often slight local rules covering ball-in-hand and shooting of the 8 ball that may be different than the official rules. Yes. It is the same as a scratch. Only if shooting at the 8 ball. If shooting the other balls, the cue ball would be ball in hand to the other player. Depending on the rules of the game it would normaly be behind the diamond line on the breaking end. If playing league rules the cue ball could be placed anywhere on the table as it is done in 9 ball.

If the table is 9 foot, it is 3 piece slate. If it 8 foot, it most likely is, but you can look underneath the table and see the seams. For 7 foot tables, you definitely have to look. If you are unable to look from underneath and really need to know, the rails can be removed as a large 1 piece square on most tables and you can then see the slate. The rails, as a large piece can be easily removed and reinstalled.

No. Rules published by BCA are very specific. The cue ball must be struck with the leather tip of the cue.

This is a subjective answer - the important thing is to get a quality table and get it set up by a qualified professional. Any table sold with 1.5 inch slate you can be certain is a well manufactured table. However, the much more common 1 inch slate tables you generally are getting what you pay for. Although Brunswick is the biggest name in pool tables, you can get a high end table from another that costs less and is just as good as the Brunswick.

A core phenolic center is made that is not of high tolerance. Then, at least 2 additional layers are built up over the core, each of better tolerance. In most cases, only the outer layer has the color and design. The exact material, method and number of layers varies from type to type. There is a reason one set may cost $160 and another only $60, and it generally is assocaited with the effort and tolerance.

The long answer:

A nine foot pool table, 9' x 4'6" (108" x 54"), has a playing area of 8'4" x 4'2" (100" x 50"). Most cue sticks are 58" in length.

To determine the minimum room size without any interference you should first add a stroke distance to the cue length (6" is a good minimum stroke distance), ie 58" cue + 6" stroke = 64".

To calculate the minimum dimensions for the room just add twice the cue/stroke length to each of the playing area dimensions.

100" + (2 x 64") = 100" + 128" = 228"

50" + (2 x 64") = 50" + 128" = 178"

And there you have it! A reasonable minimum size room for a nine foot table is 228" x 178" or 19' x 14'10"

PS. I'd much rather play on an old worn out bar size table that actually fits in the room, than even the nicest fanciest tournament table if there's not enough room to shoot.

Depending on construction, yes. Although it may be possible, it would not be recommended. The obvious reason to change to slate is a better playing surface. However, the slate will be much heavier than the composite or wood it is replacing. This very likely is heavier than the table supports are designed to support, resulting in an unstable support which in turn, will result in a table that canot be kept level.

The end consumer is the only real buyer of a second hand pool table. Roughly 50% of the original cost of a good pool table is dealer mark-up (including set-up).

A pool table supplier may purchase a used pool table for a very low cost, but their only reason for doing so is to get the slate because they have a table with damaged slate. The best way to sell a used table is internet or local classified ads.

The number is not helpful to determine how it was made except at Sears. If you cannot tell by examining it from the bottom, the price alone will give you an idea. Sears does not sell any slate pool tables at $1000 or less. If the table cost $1400 or more, it is almost certainly slate. If it is between those prices, it could be slate or a composite.

Maroon. This ball is a more of a burnt sienna color. It is a decorative brown, like many woods. The Ivoryline balls set the standards for pool balls of today.
