What is a greenstick fracture?
A greenstick fracture is afracture in a young, soft bone in which the bone bends and partially breaks. The bones become harder(calcified) and more brittle with age, it occurs almost exclusively during infancy and childhood when their bones are soft. The name is by analogy with green wood which similarly breaks on the outside when bent. There are three basic forms of greenstick fracture. In the first a transverse fracture occurs in the cortex, extends into the midportion of the bone and becomes oriented along the longitudinal axis of the bone without disrupting the opposite cortex. The second form is a torus or buckling fracture, caused by impaction. The third is a bow fracture in which the bone becomes curved along its longitudinal axis. How long does a dislocated knee take to heal?
The healing time for a dislocated knee depends on the severity of the injury. Most knee dislocations result in the tearing or rupturing of a tendon. In this case, surgery is most likely necessary. This usually has the longer healing process. The time period is usually about a year ..with the surgery and physical rehabilitation. Full recovery of the knee (return to the previous, strong state) could even take longer. The dislocations that may not require surgery could take 6 months. Again, total recovery could mean more time.

Is surgery necessary for broken fibula?
No, you don't need an operation, unless an operation is needed to fix it! What I mean by that is that only if your surgeon recommends an operation to fix a broken fibula should you consider having one. You don't need a joined up fibula to walk or run or do anything that you would normally do, as the fibula normally only carries around 10% of your body weight. Without it and your tibia will bear the weight.

Is your finger broken or jammed?
Sometimes you can't since hairline fractures aren't usually visible to the eye and may not present with as much acute pain. How quickly it swells and how great the swelling is can be an indicator, although not truly diagnostic. Often a test used is to see if you can use it or move it normally. Unless the break is unusually severe or displaced, there is often nothing done to treat it besides pain control, treating the swelling with cold compresses or ice, taping it to an adjoining finger to keep it from being over used or moving the bones too much, and observing it closely for any signs of displacement, numbness, etc. Do not attempt to tape it yourself since you may tape it in a poor position, trap nerves, or restrict circulation. Have it evaluated at an urgent care center, your primary doctor's office or by a sports trainer or school nurse (if you are an athlete and one is available).
