They will most likely start filming in July, but unless you see a cast interview filmed during the shooting schedule, production dates aren't made public. But filming normally starts in July for September premiere.

I only know a couple episodes where he shoots his gun. 1.) Two Bodies In The Lab 2.) The one where Booth's brother Jared is introduced. At least, I think he shoots his gun. I can't remember the name of it though, but it was a really good episode.
