Did Samuel Adams cue native Americans to start Boston Tea Party?

No. Native Americans were NOT involved in the Boston Tea Party. This is another misunderstood event in American history and the actual story is misleading. Consider the business about taxes. It is said that the colonist feared the effect of British taxes on the economy, but in reality the Tea Act reduced the duty on tea imported to the colonies. It was this reduction that caused the problem. Historians report that the cut in duty made British tea suddenly competitive with tea smuggled into the colonies from Holland by American merchants like John Hancock. It was this, the prospect of cheap British tea, not higher taxes that is the reason from the Boston Tea Party. Three- fourths of the tea coming into America was smuggled in, by American smugglers. The smugglers thought it unfair that their economic fortunes should be determined by a government thousands of miles away whose chief interest was protecting some body's else's business.

Another interesting fact is that not all patriots were behind the Tea Party. Washington worried it would lead to British retaliation and Franklin suggested the colonist ought to pay back the East India company for the tea.

Did the Boston Tea Party happen before or after Revere's ride?

Before. There was 3 years difference . The Boston Tea Party was a protest of the lowering of the cost of the British tea by the government and the East India tea company who had gotten a bail out from the crown in 1773. The smugglers in the colonies found the Dutch tea that they sold was higher in price than the British tea, so they staged the Boston Tea Party and others in harbors in the colonies ( Hamilton was one of the largest smugglers in the colonies and a founding member of the Son's of Liberty). The cost of tea also went as far back as the Navigation Acts and the restricting of trade to and from the colonies passed from 1650-1733. Tea was also taxed in 1767 in the Townsend Acts.

How did keep the tea tax lead to throw a tea party?

The Boston Tea Party:

It all began with the Townshend acts. They were taxes on lead, paint, paper, glass and tea. The colonists were outraged because of this "taxation without representation." And they weren't the only ones. British merchants were bringing complaints that the taxes were hurting their business, as well as the Colonists! So the British comprised. They repealed all but one of the taxes. The one left was the tea tax. And that didn't really matter, since most tea that the colonists drank was smuggled anyway. But it was different in 1773. Lord North, The Prime Minister of England, made a mistake. The tea that that had the tax on it was rotting in storehouses, and he wanted it to sell better. He decided that he would send ships loaded with the tea into Boston Harbor. He would put a lower price on the tea, but there was a catch. He thought that in the ecstasy of buying tea that was at a lower price than usual, the colonists would not mind that it had a tax on it. The idea seemed good to Lord North, but NOT to the Colonists. The Ship would not land!

....At least that went for the "Sons of Liberty". The band of Patriots met in a tavern in Boston. One night, during a meeting at the tavern, the Sons sent a messenger out to Governor Hutchinson, asking him to send the ship back. The messenger came back with the answer. The ship WOULD LAND!!!! Suddenly, 50 men dressed up as Mohawk Indians jumped out! They ran to Boston Harbor, making some rather unrealistic- sounding Indian war whoops on the way. The "Indians" dumped 352 chests of tea into the Harbor. That's 35,000 lbs of tea!!!!

Was the Boston tea party an act of patriotism or an act of vandalism and why do you think so?

I think it was patriotism because they were standing up for themselves & their country, they had no representation, and they didn't' want to be controlled by parliament

What were the british fighting styles during the 1700's?

The British "red coats" were so feared at this time that they would march to large fields to meet their foe and due battle only during daylight hours. They would fight face to face, officers in the far rear of the battle. Any officer up in the fight was not allowed to be attacked. The Minutemen changed all that, starting in the trip back from Lexington and Concord (shot heard round the world).

The British fighting style that led to their domination of the world was only being developed during the 1700's.

With the introduction of firearms armies had developed a style of set piece battles where companies of drilled men would confront each other, musketeers protected from calvary by pikemen. During the civil wars in the 1740's between the Stuarts and Hanoverians in England and Scotland the bayonet had replaced the pike effectively making the musketeer his own defender. The English troops first suffered many defeats when they became overwhelmed by the intensity of the Highlanders charge. At Culloden in 1845 the British infantry were given a new instruction. They were not to defend against the man attacking them but to kill the man who was attacking the soldier on the right because he would not be able to use his shield to defend himself.

This tactic worked and the English gained more confidence in their ability to resist a frontal attack. By the end of the century the English had recruited many of their former enemies into highland regiments and now used the fury of the Highland charge as their own assault weapon in a combined British army.

This reflected the ancient fighting styles of the Saxons who fought behind a wall of shields with spear and axe and the celts who often put all their energy into one furious charge.

What are the lyrics to the Sons of liberty song in the movie Johnny Tremain?

THE LIBERTY TREE

(Tom Blackburn & George Bruns, 1956)

(From the Disney film "Johnny Tremain")

Plant the seed in our homeland, boys.

Let it grow where all can see.

Feed it with our devotion, boys.

Call it the Liberty Tree.

CHORUS: It's a tall old tree and a strong old tree,

And we are the Sons, yes, we are the Sons, the Sons of Liberty.

Save it from the storm, boys.

Water down its roots with tea;

And the sun will always shine

On the old Liberty Tree. CHORUS

March along with the piper, boys.

We were born forever free.

We will pay the piper, boys,

Beneath the Liberty Tree. CHORUS

Pay the price they're asking, boys,

Always pay the tyrant's fee.

Never give up the struggle, boys,

Fight for the Liberty Tree. CHORUS

Stand for the rights of man, boys.

Stand against all tyranny.

Hang the of light of freedom, boys,

High on the Liberty Tree. CHORUS

It will grow as we grow, boys.

It will be as strong as we.

We must cling to our faith, boys,

Faith in the Liberty Tree. CHORUS
