How do you find who served on what ship during World War 2?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

If you know the name of the ship, try an Internet search for it. For example, if it was the USS Sims, go ask.com and type in "USS Sims." This will bring up any web sites for the USS Sims. You can enter any site and see if they have a bulletin board to ask questions. This is how I found shipmates of my Grandfathers from the USS Randolph.

Why did Germany have to destroy the RAF in the battle of Britain?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

It is very difficult to bomb a country while being shot at by spitfires, they needed to get rid of the spitfires and the RAF air defenses before they could bomb anything because while they were concentrating on bombing they would be killed by the RAF and other defenses.

You wouldn't attack someone who could kill you in the action. You take away their main weapons and defenses before attacking.

Which country had the best navy in world war 1?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

The Royal Navy by Virtue of its Grand Fleet Commander Sir (later Earl) John Jellicoe who understood both his own navy and The German High Seas Fleet he always fought for supremacy over the High Seas Fleet and the stress on him nearly broke him he was ousted quite Unfairly by another great man in the Royal Navy Sir (later Earl) David Beatty who while being a brave leader didn't even know the flaws in his own Battlecruisers remarking famously at the Jutland after losing two of his battlecruisers "There seems to be something wrong with our bloody ships today" However despite these problems at the end of WW1 it was the German Navy who scuttled itself in Scapa Flow

Therefore the best navy in ww1 was His Royal Britannic Majestys Royal Navy Which by the end of ww1 had some 33 Battleships and 9 Battlecruisers which made it larger in terms of capital ships larger than the American Russian French and Japanese navies combined

How dangerous is it as a pilot in the RAF?

User Avatar

Asked by Bolton1

Any job in the armed forces is dangerous. Obviously some more dangerous than others for example an infantryman in Afghan would be in more danger than a vehicle mechanic based in England. Depends on where you are operating. Obviously pilots have threats in Afghan from SAM's but these are very rare and saved mainly for the protection of high ranking taliban officers. Another example at the moment is Libya, they have more access to SAM's and dedicated fighter aircraft. Realistically with operations at the moment there isn't a massive threat. The RAF has very modern equipment, very effective counter-measures and the danger to a pilot is not very high.
