I thought it might be a 1980 model but yours is not a 2386.

The Browning serial # site did not seem to help.

The K means BLR and the 71 is the year.

In order for me to answer your question,I will need some more information from you.First is this shotgun a semi-auto,pump action,or over-under shotgun.I will need the model of shotgun.Then add the shotguns gauge(12 gauge,16 gauge,20 gauge)? I will need the serial number of your shotgun to date the year of manufacture.If you provide this info,I can then tell you how old your Browning shotgun is.

The Paragon was a high grade shotgun made by the Baker Gun & Forging Co. of Batavia New York. They went out of business, I believe, sometime during the early 1930's. I'm supprised that the firearm does not have the the manufactures name stamped on it somewhere. If this info is not stamped on the firearm and this gun did not start its life as a high grade gun ( meaning quality checkering and high grade wood) then it may be a knockoff trying to capalize on the name and I'm probably all wet as to its manufacture. Since writting the above I've discovered that their was indeed a firearm named "Paragon" manufactrured (or imported) by the H & D Folsom Arms Co. of New York N.Y. This Co. would put any name you wanted on a gun if you would pay the costs involved. This same gun could be sold to someone else with a different name on it. The ref. I have for this Paragon implies that the gun had exposed hammers and damascus barrels. Which, by the way, may have been true of some (but not all) of the Paragons made by Baker Gun & Forging. My bet is that if this is obviously not a high grade gun that yours was from H & D Folsom Arms Co.

By this serial number, it is not a Belgian made gun. You have an "American Browning". These guns were made by Reminton in the US under contract with Browning during the German occupation of Belgium. They were marked as Brownings and do not say Remington anywhere on it. Your serial number is on the left side of the receiver. When Remington started production, they started with serial number 5000 as the first gun produced for each guage. "B" denotes 12ga. Your gun is #11,120 (12ga) made by Remington which indicates it was made in 1945.

The answer to the question is "1962". That is the year represented by the 2. The L is the code letter for Safari Grade and 10285 is the rifle's serial number.

Browning never made a .410 automatic shotgun. Autos were made in 12, 16, and 20 guages. They did however make 410's in over/unders. auto5man

Apparently there were more than one grade of these guns manufactured. Gold triggers and intricate engraving are clues to this. Planer versions in decent (usable) shape can be found for a couple hundred bucks. The fancy ones can be worth up to $800 or so.

Its not a sweet 16. Sweets are a lightweight version of the 16ga. If there is no letter preceding this serial number, then you have an FN auto-5 and not a Browning Arms Co. gun. Your serial number indicates it was made in 1922, prior to the Browning Arms Co. guns. The FN stands for Fabrique Nationale which made the gun in Belgium.

You barrel should say acier special. If it does, then it was made in 1922. Value is determined by condition, but at this age, normally FN guns go around 300-500 depending on the condition.

It blocks off the magazine to allow the shooter to change the shell in the chamber without needing to empty the magazine or manipulate the lifter. The "classic" use was changing from a duck load to a goose load.
