What is the speed of a Bull Shark?

i needed to find this answer for a project. i found 2 sources... 1 saying up to 11 mph. another saying 25 mph. however, none near 50 mph as the previous user reported. i get the impression that their typical pace is much slower than 11 or 25 mph; however, in the final moments (seconds?) of an attack their pace can be as fast as 11 or 25 mph. personally, i believe 11 mph is most accurate for significant distances ~ 10 feet. http://science.howstuffworks.com/zoology/marine-life/bull-shark3.htm

Which shark is bigger a great white or a bull shark?

Great white. The great white shark has the ability to raise its body temperature higher than the surrounding water (often called warm blooded for this reason, though not actually warm blooded), bull sharks cannot. For this reason alone, the metabolic rate of the great white as compared to a bull shark of equal size would result in the great white being able to exhibit greater strength.

Why are bull sharks the most aggressive sharks?

The bull shark, also known as the whaler shark, Zambezi shark or unofficially known as Zambi in Africa and Nicaragua shark in Nicaragua, is a shark common worldwide in warm, shallow waters along coasts and in rivers. The bull shark is well known for its unpredictable, often aggressive behavior. Many scientists agree that since bull sharks often dwell in shallow waters, they may be more dangerous to humans than any other species of shark, and that they, tiger sharks and great white sharks are the three shark species most likely to attack humans.

Unlike most other marine sharks, bull sharks tolerate fresh water. They can travel far up rivers. As a result, they are probably responsible for the majority of shark attacks on humans that take place near the shore, including many attacks attributed to other species. However, bull sharks are not true freshwater sharks unlike the river sharks of the genius. Once bull sharks smell human flesh and/or meat, they immediately go to where they are at. This also requires fish and other sharks.

What is the life cycle of a bull shark?

No one has accurate answers to this question. Since the GW population is so migratory and also so isolated from one fish to the next, it is impossible to pick an animal and follow it. However, scientists studying GW's off the Farallon Islands (currently one of the hotbeds in the world for GW research) have identified by dorsal markings several individual animals and one, Stumpy, so named because she is missing the top portion of her caudal fin, has been observed returning to feed for 18 years. Is she an old shark? A young shark? No one can say for sure.

What ocean does the bull shark live in?

I found this information at www.sharkinfo.org on the Bull Sharks fact sheet: Bull sharks (Carcharhinus leucas) are found in tropical and subtropical waters almost everywhere in the world, whereby they prefer to live close to, or even in rivers. They belong to a minority species, capable of living in sweet water as sexually mature individuals. They are thus found in various rivers such as the Mississippi, the Amazon or the Zambezi. In the Mississipi river they are found all the way up to Illinois, and in the Amazon as far inland as 3,500 km. But whole populations, not just single individuals, also live in such sweet water lakes as Lake Nicaragua or Lake Isabel in Guatemala. Their capability of tolerating varying saltwater levels means they can also be found in brackish water systems, like the Indian River System near Cape Canaveral (Florida). Bull sharks often live so long in sweet water that their metabolism adjusts to the missing salt.

What sharks been found in the northeast river?

I'd say there's a http:/skool.com of sharks in the James river. don't go swimming in the water!

There are no sharks in the James River. It's perfectly safe to go swimming in.

While the previous entry states there are no sharks in the James River, and while I have never personally seen any sharks in the James River, I have found evidence of sharks in the Appomattox and James Rivers. I grew up in City Point, of Hopewell Va. It is a peninsula made by the convergence of the James and Appomattox Rivers. As a boy, I fished on the Appomattox River bank quite often. I would find shark teeth on the river bank, it was quite common to find shark teeth. So, if there are no sharks in the Appomattox and James Rivers, then how did the teeth get there? We were told as youth they were dog shark teeth. The teeth were definitely shark teeth and were about 1inch long. Supposedly the dog shark is the most common shark around. Here is a link regarding such a shark.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

THIS IS THE CASE:

I live in Prince George VA and commonly FOSSIL hunt on the James. These sharks teeth you have found are simply FOSSIL teeth. Modern living sharks have white teeth. Some teeth fossilize white due to the minerals which seep into the original during the fossilization process. This entire area was a sea from the Eocene era to the end of the Miocene. Mega-toothed sharks such as Carcharodon megalodon (Megalodon, the largest to ever live, with up to 7" teeth), Giant makos, and extinct forms of Great White, Tiger, and Mackerel shark teeth are just a few species that can be found in this area. Also saltwater crocodile teeth and dermal scutes, sea turtle shell fragments, whale bone, as well as many invertebrate species that colonize coral reefs can be found. The thing is, they are all FOSSILS. Sorry to shoot down the idea of sharks in the James (I wish!!!).

Another note: Bull sharks can survive and breed in fresh water, however the temperatures at this latitude are not temperate enough for them, even in ocean waters.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Actually Bull sharks roam the shallows off of Nags head and Virginia beach and has claimed victims from both. Please feel free to use google. Secondly ive been catfishing all my life including in the james river, most recently, mainly once about 5 years ago I saw a 60 pound blue catfish with incredible girth a formidable predator that the james river is known for, with a very large set of bite marks that were too clean to be anything but sharp teeth, and too wide to be anything in fresh water, no pike or gar, still have the picture as proof. None have been seen but does not mean they are not there, since i seen that fish i havent been in the water even while handling fish, used to swim as a kid.

further note: Not to mention a large 9 foot bull shark was caught 311 miles up the mississippi river. the epicenter of the james river is only 150 miles from the ocean.
