They are affected in many ways. The main thing is is that it changes you and makes you feel horrible. And when people realize they could have avoided it entirely by either blocking the bully or not using the internet service that was hosting the bullying in the first place, they just lose it.

Bullying is the dynamic of trying to take away as much power and control from another person, trying to "take over" the essence of who that person is - repeatedly.
Girls tend more toward relational bullying (verbal, emotional, social), boys tend more towards physical.
Indirect bullying: ostracizing, exclusion, rejection, name calling, spread rumors, lies behind victim's back, nitpicking. Abusing the need to feel acceptance and validation.

How to deal with it. Call them on it, turn the tables on the bully. NEVER show you are mad, that just what they want. "Fake it till you make it" - Stay cool and calm, be confident, use humor, stand up straight, look the bully in the eye, say what you have to say and then, walk away.

Cyber bullying has become increasingly easy due to the increase of technology, the easy access to the technology and the vast number of people involved in these technologies for social reasons. Mobile phones and internet messaging(s) are the easiest ways to cyber bully people, particularly due to the fact that the victims are reluctant to withdraw from this community because of its social opportunities (it gives them an opportunity to talk to other people, not just bullies).
