Calculus

The branch of mathematics that deals with the study of continuously changing quantities, with the use of limits and the differentiation and integration of functions of one or more variables, is called Calculus. Calculus analyzes aspects of change in processes or systems that can be modeled by functions. The English physicist, Isaac Newton, and the German mathematician, G. W. Leibniz, working independently, developed calculus during the 17th century.

If 3 salesmen can sell 3 stores in 7 minutes how many stores can 6 salesmen sell in 70 minutes?

I love math questions =D just use logic, 3 can sell three in 7min. So that makes one sell each. If you have six salesmen, then double it. six can sell 6 stores in 7min. take 70/7 and you get 10, now just multiply that by 6 and you have your answer, the answer is 60.

(if this is a trick question or *brain tangler* my answer is probably completely wrong. if it is a normal math question probably on you homework assignment, then i am still possibly wrong but most likely right)

What is the function of solution 2 in plasmid isolation?

This solution contains the detergent sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS)

which dissolves the cell membrane and denatures proteins. The solution is very alkaline (pH > 12) due to the presence of sodium hydroxide. The high pH aids in denaturing proteins and causes the cleavage

of the phosphate bonds in RNA. This eliminates interference from high

molecular weight RNA during the plasmid purification. Under highly

alkaline conditions, the two strands in non-supercoiled DNA (linear

fragments of chromosomal DNA, relaxed and nicked circular DNA)

separate and are partially removed from solution. However, this does

not occur with supercoiled forms of plasmid DNA because the two

strands are intertwined and entangled in a way that prevents them

from coming apart. Therefore, supercoiled plasmid remains free in

solution.

What is the answer for -2x equals 20?

To find x

-2x = 20 divide both sides by negative 2

-2x/-2 = 20/ -2

x = -10

How do you get the answer for a linear equation if the equation is in y equals mx plus b?

Well, you take y=mx+b and you fill in the numbers

M= slope

y= y-coordinate

x= x-coordinate

What is the difference between Taylor series and Maclaurin series?

A Maclaurin series is centered about zero, while a Taylor series is centered about any point c.

M(x) = [f(0)/0!] + [f'(0)/1!]x +[f''(0)/2!](x^2) + [f'''(0)/3!](x^3) + . . .

for f(x).

T(x) = [f(c)/0!] + [f'(c)/1!](x-c) +[f''(c)/2!]((x-c)^2) + [f'''(c)/3!]((x-c)^3) + . . .

for f(x).

Is motion of swing an example of simple harmonic motion?

A body undergoes simple harmonic motion if the acceleration of the particle is proportional to the displacement of the particle from the mean position and the acceleration is always directed towards that mean.

Provided the amplitude is small, a swing is an example of simple harmonic motion.

What is the solution of the following system of eauations 3y equals 5x and y equals x plus 2?

There are two equations for which we must determine both variables, x and y.

3y = 5x

y = x + 2

We are going to use the substitution method to isolate one of the variables in one of the equations. The second equation defines "y" for us in terms of "x", so we will simply substitute that value into the first equation

3y = 5x

3(x + 2) = 5x

3x + 6 = 5x

6 = 2x

x = 3

Now that we have a value for "x", we will substitute that back into the second equation to get a numerical value for "y".

y = x + 2

y = 3 + 2

y = 5

Then, do not forget to check your work by putting both values into both equations to make sure you have the correct answer.

3y = 5x

3(5) = 5(3)

15 = 15

Check!

y = x + 2

5 = 3 + 2

5 = 5

Check!

How many kL makes milliliter?

One millionth (1/1000000) of kL makes 1 mL

1 kL = 1000 L = 1000000 ml

Can x and y axes be numbered differently?

Of course. If you have a function that climbs very steeply and you want to show its shape, you can number the Y axis in increments of 1000 and the X in increments of 1. This will, of course, make the curve appear 1000 times flatter visually.

Also, the two axes may not necessarily even measure the same thing. On any newspaper financial page, you will find a graph with the X axis numbered to represent time and the Y to represent a stock index price.

Why does wrapping function not one is to one?

No, because for the unit "circle", any two points separated by a distance of 2*pi will map to the same location.

Is 60 2x equals to 70 4x what is x?

Impossible to give a correct solution in the absence of any plus or minus signs.

Which equation has the same x intercept as y equals x plus 2?

You could multiply x+2 by any number, and it would have the same x intercept, which is -2. For example: y=2x+4; or y=3x+6; or y=4x+8; or y=-x-2

How do you graph the equation -5x plus y equals 1?

-5x+y=1

In order to graph, you should reorganize the equation into y-intercept form, y=mx+b, in which m is the slope of the line, and b is the slope-intercept. You can tell this is a line because the x is to the first power.

-5x+y=1

y=5x+1

In this case, 1 is the b value. On a coordinate plane, mark a point at (0,1) because 1 is the y value at which the line crosses the y-axis. At that point, the x-value is 0 because it has to be a point directly above or below the origin, at which x-value is 0. Because the equation is in slope-intercept form, you know that 1 is the y value.

You also know that the slope is 5 (aka 5/1). Slope is rise over run, so you know that for ever 5 units the line moves up, it will move 1 unit to the right. You know that it is up and right because the 5 is positive. Now, from the y-intercept you plotted at (0,1) move up 5 units and right 1 unit, and mark another point there at (1,6). You can continue to mark points in this fashion at (2,11), (3,16), (4,21)...But generally, two points is enough.

Use a straight edge of some sort to connect the dots, drawing excess on either end of the dots. Include arrows on both ends of the line. It continues forever in both directions without any discontinuities. It would only have discontinuities if there were a fraction or an even root like a square root or fourth root, so you don't have to worry about that.

You're done!
