The U.S. issued Indian head cents in 1897. The buffalo design was first used on nickels in 1913.

Canadian nickels (1922 and later) never contained silver. A 1967 Centennial nickel is made of 99.9% nickel and is worth about 15 cents in above-average condition.

None. It's pure nickel. Canada hung onto silver in its coins a bit longer than the US but stopped by mid-1968.

The last year for circulating silver U.S. dimes and quarters was 1964, while half dollars continued with a reduced silver content until 1971. Meanwhile in Canada, their dollars and halves were silver up through 1967, with quarters and dimes at a reduced content into 1968.

It is probably a merchant's token, common in the 19th century, or possibly a pawnbrokers token. In view of the reference to "5c", and that it is in English, it is most likely from the USA or Canada.

There have been some different designs in some years, commemorating various people or events, but these are the standard current designs. The 1 cent coin was discontinued after 2012.

Check that coin again. Canada didn't half a halfpenny in 1949.
