Are rabbits solitary animals?

No. Most rabbits are happier in a cage alone. In some cases a spayed/neutered rabbit will have no problem sharing a cage. However most rabbits are solitary.

A different answer (disagreement): Actually, rabbits are social animals.

In the wild they live in big groups (called "warrens" - this is also the name for the system of burrows and tunnels they live in).

Pet rabbits need a lot of companionship and socializing: if not from other rabbits, then from you (their owners). There are many benefits to keeping rabbits together, but they must be properly "bonded," which means they love each other and can be trusted not to fight. Rabbits need to be spayed/neutered before the bonding process starts. (Some people have successfully bonded two unspayed females raised from the same litter, but this isn't common.) When rabbits aren't spayed/neutered, they'll probably fight, or they'll breed. See the related question below for details and links about bonding.

Why does your bunny lick you?

Your bunny may be licking you because he's showing affection to how much he loves you. However, even though it may sound wierd, he might be tasting you to see if your "chewable", so it may start nipping at you. But don't worry; bunny bites don't hurt! In fact, they kind of tickle!

Do bunnies eat berries?

Yes, rabbits can eat apple tree branches but NOT leaves as it can cause cyanide poisoning. They should be thoroughly dried (there are cases of rabbits falling ill after eating fresh apple twigs). Many rabbits love apple tree twigs, so long as they are free from toxins like pollution and pesticides. Rabbits need a diet high in fibre -- most of that fibre intake should come from hay, but apple twigs also add to a rabbit's fibre intake and they make for some welcome variety in a rabbit's diet and day. Dried willow tree branches are also widely recommended for bunnies.

Your rabbit has poo stuck to his bum can you wash him?

When immersed in water a rabbit can go into shock and die very easily. Gently brush out the area that has poop stuck to it. Brush his whole body with a soft bristle brush. Use a pet wipe or damp cloth to clean any dirt. Cleaning the cage 2 or 3 times a week can also help.Rabbits generally are very good at grooming themselves. If they cannot groom, there is a reason for it. Some of the problems include being overweight and poor diet. The solution is simple for both problems: limit pellets and treats, increase hay, and give him more exercises. Make sure the hay is timothy and the pellets are timothy bases with protein below 16% and fibre above 18%. If any problems persist, a visit to a rabbit savvy vet may be in order. Our rabbit Daisy gets clumps stuck to her rear end, usually as a result of not getting enough roughage in her diet. Keeping the hay always available seems to minimize it. Anyways I've read that you shouldn't bathe your rabbit so we don't. Instead I wrap her up in a large bath towel and lay her on her back in my lap. If she's on her back and her head is covered she won't squirm. I then take a dampened warm terry cloth towel and rub her tail end so the clump lets loose of her hair. Usually I have to use a pair of scissors to CAREFULLY cut it loose. Then take the damp clothe and finish cleaning up her tail end. I like to finish with a little bit of cornstarch, it helps to dry her tail end. Then lots of loving and let her run around the house for a while. Cheers!

How often does a rabbit feed her bunny's?

in research i read 1-2 times a day. was told i wouldn't probably never see it. occurs between midnight and 5 am usually. however my bunny liked to feed at 11 am and i have it on video. lol. and my 3 babies that survived are healthy little porkers! it does take about 24 hours for mom to start lactating. you can tell if they are being fed if by flipping them over they have full round bellies. if they are sunken in and wrinkly they need attention. you can put a drop of honey in their mouth til you get them to a vet. vet will give mom a shot of a lactition hormone. make sure you pet mom before touching babies and when you put them back in cage-pet mom/baby/mom/baby/mom/baby. cover your scent.

Can you give a rabbit a bath in water?

It's best not to give rabbits any bath at all. Baths are dangerous for rabbits: they can easily become ill or injured from being given a bath. Also, rabbits are clean animals and they wash themselves: if your rabbit is dirty, something is probably wrong with its health and it should see a vet.

If a bath is necessary, it's best to try a "dry bath" first (see related question below for more details). This is the safest for your rabbit. If the dry bath doesn't work, then you can try a wet spot bath with a wash cloth. If the spot bath doesn't work, either, then you can try a full wet bath, but you must be very careful and follow specific procedures to keep the rabbit safe (see related question below).

If you do give your rabbit a wet bath, you can try it with just water. If just water cleans the rabbit, great! It's much better to just use water than to use a shampoo or soap. But, if your rabbit is very dirty, it probably needs shampoo. Do NOT use just any shampoo! Most shampoos made for humans, even ones for babies, even some for pets!, are too harsh and can lead to chemical burns or skin irritation. Use a hypoallergenic, non-medicated, natural-ingredients shampoo.
