Two brand names are Oronine or Avagard.

How do you know when a snake is sick?

I am also looking for this answer. However I am learning that if snake makes sounds like sneezing or a purring noise, I hear it has respiratory problems? Our snake is a king snake. So if that is helpful? Also if it throws up more than twice after eating take it to vet. and look for mites on it's head or in feces. After handling check your hands for black dots? Wash your hands before and after handling If eyes are foggy it may be about to shed it's skin. these are all the things I've been able to find out about. Hope it helps. good luck. Oh also veterinarian clinics don't all deal with snakes. So you may have to look around.

What kind of snake is brown with black stripes?

Many, many snakes are brown and black, as this coloration is useful for camouflage. The answer to this question also depends on what you would consider a "stripe". The ball python is a fairly common pet snake that has brown and black markings. As do some color strains of corn snakes and garter snakes. The rat snake can be brown with black stripes, but I've never seen one with the reverse. The black-striped snake is so named because, go figure, it is black and striped. Its stripes are brown. Indigo snakes are almost entirely black, but can have brownish markings around their head and chin. The mud snake and crayfish snake are black with a brown belly which can, from the side, look like a single brown stripe stretching the entire length of the snake. The hognose is also black and brown, though again it's more brown with black stripes than black with brown stripes. The night snake can have wither brown stripes or black stripes, but not both. The common kingsnake and the plainbelly water snakes are actually brown with large, black spots, but if you only look quickly they can appear black with many thin, brown stripes. Most other water snakes also have brown and black markings. The whipsnake is a gray with brown stripes. The longnose snake and mountain patchnose snake are black with brown stripes. As is the Western Ribbon snake, though it can also have red stripes in the mix. The copperhead and rattlesnake can also both have black and brown markings, that in some cases will certainly appear mostly black with brown stripes. This is not, by any means, a complete list of snakes that fit the description you gave. If you could post a picture you would, I'm sure, get a more helpful response.

How many babies can a rat snake have?

I was interested in finding this out because a pair that is at the petstore I buy from keeps getting pregnant. They are EXCELLENT parents and produce awesome babies, but the dad just keeps getting the mom pregnant. Anyway, I used a calculator to try to figure out how many babies she could have in a lifetime...

She has about 12 babies per litter. The gestation period is approx 20 days. I used an average of 4 years for her lifetime.

365/20= 18 times per year possible to get pregnant

18x4= 72 times possible to get pregnant in her lifetime

72x12 (per litter)= 864 babies in her lifetime (about 216 babies per year if you want to change the number of years variable)

216 babies in 1 year

432 babies in 2 years

648 babies in 3 years

864 babies in 4 years

1080 babies in 5 years

Might not be the most accurate because that is if the female is immediately pregnant again right after having a litter, so those are like the maximum potentials, but still interesting to see. That's a LOT of babies!

Do corn snakes live together?

No. Snakes are solitary animals that only come together to breed.

Forcing snakes to live together can cause several problems:

1. stress due to one snake trying to be dominate over the other snake. this snake will take most of the food and the hides it likes. the other will be very stressed and as a result have reduced immune system functionality, eat less, and not be very happy.

2. cannibalism. while not common in all species, it does in fact happen with nearly all species. all it takes is for one to mistake the other as food and eat it, and then possibly die due to the size of the meal. is it really worth the risk?

3. disease and parasite transfer between the snakes. if snakes are housed together, any parasites or diseases that one has, the other will also get. if one gets sick, then you've doubled your vet bills.

all this risk for what? it doesn't really save money, tanks and supplies are cheap.

all it saves is a few cubic feet of shelf space.

Can a rat snake puncture your skin?

It depends how big the snake is. Young ones' teeth are tiny, and are unlikely to puncture a persons skin. An adult, however, has teeth that are 3-4mm long, and are capable of breaking the skin.

How long do Creamsicle corn snakes live?

It depends on how they are fed. If you power feed (2 or more feedings per week) they won't get their longest possible length but they will have a bigger gurth. If you slow feed (1 feeding every 1-2 weeks) they will achieve their maximum length of approximately 6 feet or more.
