Which cleaning product does not harm reptiles?
After recommendations over 25 years ago by my local reptile vet and a number of reptile shop - I have used a dilute solution of Milton Fluid (the stuff you sterilise baby bottles with). ONE cap to TWO GALLONS of water will do the trick. Remember to rinse the vivarium thoroughly with clean water afterwards.
I also use the same solution to soak new cage 'furniture' before use - leaving it to dry overnight.

The cloaca - is located at the base of the tail. If you look at the scale pattern on the underside of the snakes body, the scales are primarily rectangular in shape, and lined up side-by-side (think of it like a ladder) - these are the ventral scales. Towards the tail, the pattern changes to shorter, more rounded scales. The junction between the two patterns is the snake's cloaca.

Is the new skin of the snake the same as the old skin?
Yes it is - even down to the patterning. The new layer of skin is created underneath the old one, and a fluid secreted between the two layers to separate them (which is why a snakes eyes go cloudy). Most snakes don't need a humidifier. The vast majority of the commonly-kept species thrive in relatively dry, temperate climatesThe only species that need high humidity - are those found in rain-forests. Commonly-kept species - such as those from northern america, (corn snakes and garter snakes) don't need high humidity. Neither do those from Africa/Asia such as Royal & Burmese pythons. Even Boas from central america don't need the humidity that high.
In most cases, gently misting the vivarium a couple of times a week, using a simple spray-bottle filled with water - is sufficient to raise the humidity if needed.
How do you find a lost corn snake?
Boost up your heating, put some plastic bags around the floor and leave an apropriately sized mouse in the middle of the room!! My king is a bugger for playing houdini, but it seems to work every time!! Try to have a room lockdown especially if you have cats or dogs who would like to eat your snake!!!
some people put a sprinkling of flour over the floor to see if they get any tracks, i haven't tried this method myself as it sound messy, but I'm sure it would work.
look in all of the warm spots i.e. behind the fridge, the airing cupboard, tumble dryer, nice warm clothes anywhere that the mains is plugged in and left on all of the time will have a bit of extra heat...and watch out when you put the washing machine on snakes really don't like the spin cycle!
When/if you find your snake ensure they have access to plenty of water, perhaps even tube feed some (i see alot of renal failure in stray snakes here in the UK after they have been missing for a few months).
Once found, leave to warm up for a couple of days then feed small meals (smaller than usual) every 4 days to build up the metabolism. before going back to your normal routine.
Hope everyone finds their lost snake and that this helps xx AV
- I found mine last night, after losing him 5 months ago. We'd given up hope as to it being such a terrible winter, but last I spotted him coming out of the floor boards. He has one dull eye, where he may burnt himself against a pipe - but otherwise seems to be alright.
Just goes to show what little troopers they are.

Can one year old baby eat corn?
Though rare, corn can trigger allergies in some children. If you have a family history of food allergies, hold off on feeding your baby corn until he is at least 1 year old, if not later. Dietitians use this age as a benchmark for giving new foods to your baby because his digestive system is more developed after his first year and generally hardier. Signs of food allergy include swelling of the tongue, lips, and face; skin rash; wheezing; abdominal cramping; vomiting; or diarrhea. If your baby develops any of these symptoms after eating a certain food, call your family doctor as soon as possible.

Why doesn't my corn snake move round in his tank?
In their natural environment, a lot of reptiles time - is spent basking in sunlight - either to raise its temperature in readiness for hunting, or to aid in digesting a freshly-eaten meal. Since they don't really need to move around constantly, they simply spend a good deal of time 'sleeping'.
