As a rule of thumb, you should not feed your turtle anything bigger than his head. Aquatic or semi aquatic turtles can eat fish. However, if you have them in a tank, even with filtration, it can cause an oily film on the surface of the water.

Water turtles, such as red ear sliders, love to eat goldfish. They can see them better than other fish due to the bright color and will chase them in their aquarium and eat them once they catch them.

They have birds, gerbils, ferrets, fish, and lizards but there maybe more in other petcos. I bought two parakeets myself.

Your question can not be surely answered unless you tell us what kind of turtle you are asking about. Most turtles do not need sand to live but a few do. At a pet shop you are most likely to get a variety of turtle that does not require sand, but asking the pet shop for that sort of info is a good idea. We have a red-eared slider that we caught in our pond when his shell was the side of a quarter. He's lived in our fish tank for over two years now and he's about 4 inches across. The tank has the usual gravel bottom, a ledge for him to climb out of the water, and a few fish (also from the pond) but no sand.

There are two ways, you can tell visually by seeing if there is any sign of wrinkles on the shell, and if you cant tell visually, then just lightly poke the shell. If it gives way a little bit, you know it has a soft shell.
