How often should you feed aquatic turtles?
You can feed your turtle twice a day, once a day, every other day, or even every two or three days. The only rule about feeding aquatic turtles is that you are only supposed to feed them however much they can eat in a few minutes (like, 5 minutes).
So, if you choose to feed the turtle only every other day, or every two or three days, then you will need to give it larger feedings. If you choose to feed it twice a day, or once a day, then the amount of food you give for each feeding should be much smaller.

Keep in mind that turtles never stop growing, because they can't get fat. If a turtle got fat, it wouldn't be able to fit in its shell. And turtles are not like hermit crabs: they can't leave their shell and find a new one. So, the shell has to grow with the turtle. Consequently, if you routinely overfeed your turtle, it will just keep growing bigger and bigger.
As I said, you are only supposed to feed a turtle however much it can eat in a few minutes. So, if there are always leftovers floating around the tank after the feeding, then you are feeding the turtle too much.

How long does a turtle need to adjust to a new tank?
It depends on whether you just got this turtle or you are just giving him a new enclosure. If he is new to your home then it will take about a week, but it depends on the turtles character as well. I would leave a new turtle alone for the first 2-3 days and then start handling him. But it will take about a week for him to get completely settled.

Will a Hieroglyphic river cooter turtle bite?
I have a hieroglyphic river cooter and he has only ever tried to bite twice in the year that I have had him. I believe this is because the first time my brother was wiggling his finger in front of his face and the second was just before feeding time, because I have them on a feeding schedule they know when they are going to eat...that might be why he tried to bite. It didn't hurt at all, it was just a bit surprising.
