Most turtles must be fed directly in the water; otherwise they cannot swallow. Turtles eat a variety of chopped lean raw meats and occasional greens. A few turtles like banana as a treat. Beef, fish, smelt and fresh shellfish, earthworms, tubifex worms and brine shrimp (for babies) should comprise their diet. Calcium, bone meal and liquid or powdered vitamins should be added to their food to supplement their diet. Small turtles should be fed every day and larger ones at least three times a week. Always remove excess food when the turtle shows no further interest in it. Some turtle keepers prefer to feed their pets in a separate container for easier tank cleaning, but some turtles will not feed when removed for their tank for feeding. Great advances have been made in the last few years with high quality prepared foods, many turtles take readily to these as part of a varied diet.

I would have to say no, but if you do you might want to check them to see if they don't fight, but I still wouldn't do it because then they will get use to each other when it is time to separate them and they will not eat. And the painted turtle might just go ahead and eat the snapper because it would be small enough to eat.

No, a painted baby turtle is only the size of a quarter as hatching, the size of the turtle has really no reference to size! Size if composed of age and food supply. a painted turtle is like a red eared turtle which can get up to 8-10" in size depending on the food / environment they are raised in

If it gets cold where you live during winter time, then your turtle will most likely slowly stop eating, and become much less active. This is a sign that conditions are becoming increasingly difficult for him to cope with. It is natural for him to want to go into hibernation. They should burrow into the soil to wait out the unfavorable cooler months in a deep sleep. It is important for you to discover where he intends to burrow so that you can look in on him every once in awhile. He still needs to have his enclosure sprayed to maintain humidity to keep his skin from drying out. If your turtle is looking sickly, do not let him go inactive for the winter. It is likely that he will not survive. Take him to a veterinarian that specializes in reptiles to decide the best course of action.

Softshell turtles live in Ohio ponds. We have ponds next to our house with a family of softshelled turtles living there. They love the algea at the bottom and the temperatures of Ohio. We had a big storm that washed up softshell turtles they are about the size of a childs hand.

Turtle eggs (whether bred in captivity or not) hatch 60 to 80 days after they are laid. Once the young hatch and dig out of the nest, they are immediately independent.

If the eggs are laid upon a beach, the turtles then have to make the journey from their nesting zone to the water, without being eaten by predators ie: seagulls.

Probably not. Many Adult turtles could easily hold their breath for 15 minutes or much longer. Small turtles would likely be able to hold their breath for 5 minutes, IMO.

i would say in creeks and ponds around hot climates

See a vet or use typical first aid. Stop any bleeding, disinfect the wound, and bind it. If the injury is a broken bone, then you probably shouldn't deal with it yourself. Take your turtle to a vet instead.

A male ornate box turtle can be easily distinguished from a female by it's red eyes, the female's being brown, it's plastron or bottom shell is curved inward, in order to be able to mount the female shell, and the male tail is longer and thicker than a female.
