Testing might include electromyographic or nerve conduction velocity testing to determine the exact severity of nerve damage.

Can crohn's disease cause carpal tunnel syndrome?

It certainly can be a risk factor for getting carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) They are not sure if it is due to the the potential for fluid retention in these individuals, especially patients that are not well controlled, or if the decreased thyroid levels have an effect on the actual structure or covering of the nerves and thus can effect the median nerve, which then can cause carpal tunnel symptoms.

Has anyone had burning numbness in hand after carpal tunnel surgery?

Yes. Since immediately following my CT surgery, my 2 middle fingers have been numb on the inside of the fingers, they tingle and burn and are unbelievably sensitive. I get severe pain now that I didnt have before on the back of my hand - feels like it is on fire. Also at the same time will have stabbing burning pain in my upper arm near my shoulder - this is the problem I had before all this. Its not *quite* as bad as it was - but still bad enough to have me eating percocets daily - mainly at night.

Can you file a carpal tunnel claim if you retired 6 months ago?

You will need to check with your states work comp laws to find out how long you have to report a workrelated injury. Some states it is 30 days for acute injuries and longer for repetitive use type injuries such as carpal tunnel syndrome. Remember just because you file it doesn't mean it will be accepted as a workrelated case.

As a dental professional what would cause me to get carpal tunnel syndrome?

The most obvious would be using fine repetetive gripping, pinching motions while holding dental tools. This can increase pressure across the carpal tunnel as can awkward postures of the wrist. If the median nerve that runs through the carpal tunnel canal gets pinched or compressed for long periods of time this may cause CTS. Other causes or risk factors of carpal tunnel syndrome can be pregnancy and hypothyroidism(increased fluid retention), wrist fractures, arthritis and obesity.

What effect does Computers have on carpal tunnel syndrome?

This was study widely in the 90's.. Finally Harvard and Mayo clinic did a couple of studies which basically showed that in general computer use does not cause carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS). The question is, can it aggravate CTS? To this I think most medical experts would agree that it can aggravate a case of CTS to varying degrees, but so can a lot of other factors such as diabetes, pregnancy, hypothyroidism etc.. Computer work stations should be set up ergonomically correct. In a nut shell, ergonomics looks at how to adapt the work place task or tasks around the normal or natural functions and postures of the human body. Things like wrist posture, back posture, desk and computer height can all effect your arms, shoulders, neck and hands whether you have CTS or not. Typically these kind of conditions may be known as Repetetive strain injuries (RSI) or tendonitis, or just plain ol' neck strain, shoulder strains etc... Having a ergonomic friendly computer work station setup will benefit you in the long run, regardless if you actually have CTS or not.

My husband is having trouble with his arms going to sleep at night its been happening for a while and now he says it feels like they are on fire?

This could be carpal tunnel syndrome. This is where the tendons are being restricted in the wrist. The median nerve is also being compressed by the ligaments which causes numbness and sometimes pain when the joint is bent. It can feel like the arms are going to sleep also. A simple operation will help relieve this. In fact I need this myself but have not got round to having it done yet.

What is involved in electromyographic and nerve conduction velocity testing?

These tests involve stimulating the median nerve with electricity and measuring the resulting speed and strength of the muscle response, as well as recording speed of nerve transmission across the carpal tunnel.

Can acupuncture Cure carpal tunnel syndrome?

This is impossible to answer.

Classical or traditional Cchinese acupuncture treats the dynamic body as a whole and not a symtom (CTS).

But expereince tells us that: Yes, it might well cure your problem. But nothing can be said as to the length of treatment. If it is accompanied by Tui Na (chinese physiotherpay) then acupuncture would stand a very good chance of curing CTS but it will probably not work on its own ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Most reputable medical experts would say no...acupuncture and massage therapy and yoga etc..have been studied over the years and none of them have proven to "cure" carpal tunnel syndrome. Can they relieve carpal tunnel symptoms? absolutley!..how much depends on the cause of your CTS and how severe of a case you have, your age, how long have you had it before treatment etc...

How long will you be off work after cruciate ligament surgery?

it depends on certain factors, like what kind of jobs you are doing, how your body responds to the operation eg. serious vommitting after the operation due to GA and how you feel after the operation. even though one can normally walk with crutches a day after the operation or the day itself, it is quite imposssible to walk long distances due to the discomfort of your leg. the constant discomfort, even with painkillers, might put you off from going to work, but it usually lasts for 1 to 2 weeks, after which one can walk, albeit with the help of crutches, or crutch, with minimal pain and discomfort, though there will be a slowdown in speed. time will also be needed to do rehab everyday by oneself or with the help of a physiotherapist

Can you have carpal tunnel and be a massage therapist?

Yes, but obviously you may have to do things a little differently and learn techniques that won't aggravate your CTS (carpal tunnel syndrome). It would also depend on how severe of a case of CTS you have. Some people have borderline or mild cases while other have very severe cases, the latter you would not be able to do much massaging without a flare up of your symptoms. After use of hands I would use ice, apply biofreeze cream and take OTC pain relievers, there are also some hand exercises you can do as well

What are the major restrictions for 2 weeks after carpal tunnel surgery?

Main restrictions are - no heavy lifting & keep surgery location dry. I had surgery on both hands at the same time about 5 years ago and have never had any more problems/pain. Best thing I ever did for pain relief! I did have bandages on both hands but was still able to grasp and hold utensils for eating. I was back to work on 'light-duty' after 10 days and back to normal about a week after that. Hope this helped.
