Which is better a polyester carpet or a nylon carpet?

It depends on what you are looking for. Polyester, including PET polyesters are good for stains, you can get very bright vibrant colors from them. But, they are not good carpets for heavy traffic areas. Polyester is a less refined fiber and heat sets the cables at a lower temperature then nylon. This makes it more prone to matting with foot traffic. Nylon carpeting is great for high traffic rooms. It is very durable and as long as it has a good stain treatment is a great all around choice. If I were out looking for carpet, I would be looking for a nylon that is type 6,6. One that is BCF (bulk continuous filament) because they shed less. You can often find all this in a carpet priced the same as a polyester.

Why is the red carpet red?

In the times of kings and queens, lords and ladies, castles and crusades, the red carpet in the center of the room often indicated royalty or class. If you notice, many times in a lot of other assemblies that include those of "common" birth, there are no red carpets. This could be one reason why. Red was also the national colors of many nations that indicate the blood shed in loyalty to a country or the loyalty to someone from the heart (the heart is red) and royalty, as red is a very royal color, often used in ceremonial and corronation robes back then. There have also been records from Greek scriptures in which the red carpet was said to only be something that gods walked on because walking on a red carpet often did not let your foot touch earth, so it was like saying that you were walking in heaven. The earlier records of this was a quote from a play called Agamenon by Aeschylus, written in 458 BC. Agamenon has returned from Troy where he is greeted by his wife who puts down a carpet for him to walk on and says: "Now my beloved, step down from your chariot, and let not your foot, my lord, touch the Earth. Servants, let there be spread before the house he never expected to see, where Justice leads him in, a crimson path."Agamenon had resonded with: "I am a mortal, a man; I cannot trample upon these tinted splendors without fear thrown in my path." He said this because he knew that only gods walk on carpets such as the one that his wife had put before him, and he knew that he was not a god. In modern times, the first appearance of a red carpet was in 1902 when The New York Central Railroad used plush crimson red carpets to direct people as they boarded the train. Other places that they use the red carpet was to welcome guests of honor, or V.I.P. as people call them now, or celebraties at formal events. The term "rolling out the red carpet" often indicates a special effort made in the interest of hospitality. See following link for more details: http://ask.yahoo.com/20050916.html

Laughable, why waste time with an answer like that?

To estimate;

first calculate sq feet: Length X width= Sq feet ie. (12'X100' would be 1200 sq feet)

Then multiply sq feet X the weight per sq ft. (1200 sq feet X .5= 600 pounds)

Lots of variable but you didnt give any specifics, so I will have to assume approximate is all you are looking for.

for residential/ home carpet use 1/2 pound (.5) per sq foot & you will be pretty

close,

for commercial carpet use 3/8 pound (.4)per sq foot.. lots of variables but that will be better than "Pretty Heavy" for your estimate

How does one lay carpet on stairs?

This depends on the carpet, the type of stairs you have, and how you want this installed. Assuming you have a fairly typical staircase of 15 stairs and a landing, you would need in the general area of 20 yards of carpet for a basic install. Labor will run you about $220 for a high quality install. A total price of around $600 for a somewhat middle of the road carpet. The final price will depend a lot of the style and quality carpet selected. Steps are more expensive to install because done right, they can take quite awhile to complete. If you are looking to have the sides bound to leave exposed hardwood, add an additional $1.50 + a running foot for binding. This usually is at least another $120 once it is all said and done. When looking for an installer to just do steps, make sure this installer will be fully padding and tacking carpet into place. A proper installer should be using tack board on the steps as well.

o it yourself.

Can Carpeting my floor help me not hear my neighbors below?

No it can't because of Acoustic Flanking

The answer is NONE ZERO. You putting carpet on your floors will reduce the impact noise (foot Fall) the neighbor below experiences but will do nothing for the airborne sound coming up. Besides if a lot of it is impact noise from them then that is already flanking through the building materials and is radiating off your floor and walls. If you can feel the vibration of their washing machine that is sitting on their floor then those vibrations are running across their floor, running up common walls and across your floor. This is text book acoustic flanking. We have vibration pads that can go under their washer/dryer which will help a lot. We can't do much about the ceiling fan. Its hard bolted to your floor underneath. What they really need to do is remove their drywall ceiling, add Genie Clips then re-drywall with a double layer using Green Glue. That will take care of the ceiling but you may still experience the flanking up the walls.

Does a carpet count as furniture?

A carpet is generally not classified as furniture; instead, it is considered a floor covering or textile. While it contributes to the overall design and comfort of a space like furniture, it does not provide seating or storage. However, some might argue that large area rugs play a functional role similar to furniture in defining spaces within a room. Ultimately, the classification can depend on context and personal interpretation.

Then you can lay any pad and carpet you want. There are certain types of carpet that come with an attached foam padding that are designed to lay over concrete. If you think you want to just glue carpet directly to the concrete floor, check the mfg. warranty first. Most mfgs. will not honor their warranty unless they specifically state that it can be glued to concrete.
