Cats have a great sense/feeling about people.

Maybe you need a furry friend in your life and fate has directed this cat to your porch (home). Cats also sense when people need love and affection. This of course is up to the cat. Cats adopt people.

This happened to one of my neighbors. One of my cats adopted this elderly couple and they just fell in love with her. They said the cat came to their house and would follow them, curl up on their laps, etc.

Some People say 4 to 8 weeks and I believe that is technically true, but not necessarily the best thing for the kittens. Four weeks is too early if it can be avoided. It is more usual for kittens to start on solids at about 6 to 8 weeks, but still need the care, mothering, and nutrition from the mother.

For a kitten to have its needs properly met, it needs at least 10-12 weeks with the mother. I have a mom cat that is still nursing at 16 1/2 weeks. I have not interfered and tried to let nature take its course, and the kittens are still nursing, even though they are healthy and eating solid food for some time now. Not really. The mother cat will usually eat the kitten placentas and will, as a result, get back a small amount of the protein she has expended in creating the kittens. But there is nothing special about the placentas, and depriving the mother cat of them will not hurt her.
