I personally would not give a horse celery because a lot of celery has very tough strings in it that get slimy when wet. I would be concerned the strings would either choke the horse or get caught up in their gut. Horses have very complicated and delicate digestive systems. There are many other healthy treats you can give your horse, the standard apples, carrots, etc. but also occassionally add turnips, lettuce, etc.
Yes my parakeet loves celery, he is 7 years old now and hasn't died from it yet ;)
Does celery have negative calories?
No. It is impossible for a food to contain negative calories, or anything for that matter, however it does require more energy to digest celery than the celery provides, which led to it being called a negative calorie food.
Most people that dispute this say it would only take 1 calorie per hour to chew it up, ignoring the rest of the digestive process which is where most energy is consumed.

What parts of celery are edible?
For the most part, all. The very base that was connected to roots would probably be too woody to eat. The leaves are very aromatic and work great in making broths, stews, and salads. The stems are easy enough to eat raw or cooked in a dish. Celery seeds should be ground before being used as a spice.

Yes, many rabbits do enjoy celery, although if you are planning on giving them this make sure you cut it into pieces about one inch (2 cm) long. There is some talk that the strings can cause choking in rabbits, so cutting them into short pieces will avoid this concern. Also, only the dark-coloured celery leaves are very healthy for rabbits; the light-coloured leaves and the stalk itself are only good as an occasional treat -- they're low in nutrients and can lead to diarrhea. See the related question below for more info about the rabbit diet.
How do you know if celery is bad?
You can tell celery has gone bad by noting the color. If it has gone brown and is not bright green, then it is more than likely bad. Also, when celery does not snap when you break it in half and does not sound crisp (if it is soft) then it is bad or nearly bad.
Celery can change color if you put the ends of it in food coloring such as a blue, or red.
It melts the snow and ice and it helps create friction and traction with your tires so you have grip on the road so you don't slide around everywhere.

What kind of knife is used to chop celery and nutmeats?
Personally, I'd go with a cleaver. Its extra weight is great for getting through the hard nuts and the stringy celery fibers. Plus, at the end you can use the knife itself to scoop up the results and put them wherever you need them. I have a lot of knives in the kitchen, but find myself using the cleaver about half the time -- esp when it's for chopping rather than for things that require more fine-tuned or precise work.
This broad bladed knife is ideal for a lot of chopping operations. The santoku is lighter than the cleaver, and its blade is largely inflexible. It is more and more frequently used by cooks in place of a "standard" chef's knife, which tapers. There are a lot of pictures out there, and though the "real" santoku tapers through its length, the ones offered by contemporary cutlers have little to no taper save the rapid drop to the tip near the point of the knife. Either with or without the grantons, (those little "hollows" along the edge of the blade), it's a fabulous knife. Use the links below to see pictures.
