What is special about chameleon?

Some chameleon adaptations are:1. Eyes can move and focus independently and view two different images at the same time.

2. Skin pigment cells can change color depending on temperature, mood, and during breeding. Basically they communicate with other chameleons through slight color changes. It also makes it hard for predators to see it.

3. They can shoot out their tongue nearly a foot and catch an insect with incredible accuracy.

4. Behavioral adaption would be the manner in which the chameleon moves throughout vines and limbs. They move very slow, wavy, and precise so they appear to be leaves blowing in the wind. This makes them less less likely to be spotted by a predator.

Do eagles eat chameleons?

Chickens are not the preferred food of eagles. American (Bald) eagles eat mostly fish and golden eagles eat mostly small mammals like rabbits and squirrels. I suppose if an eagle was very hungry and could find nothing better, he would indeed eat a chicken. And who would blame him?

What can you feed your chameleon?

I have a pet chameleon and as of right now we've been feeding her mealworms (which is technically beetle larvae). She's been getting bored with them so we tried crickets, which she didn't much care for those because she barely went for them. Beetle larvae and crickets were the only things suggested to us for our chameleon, which may vary depending on which pet store you go to. I looked it up and you can also feed them silkworms, grasshoppers, mealworms, waxworms, flies (but those are what they mostly eat in the wild), and tomato hornworms.

Also if you do try any of the worms to feed to your chameleon, you have to feed the insects too (all except for the flies, crickets, and grasshoppers), because if you don't then the mealworms turn into beetles and the silk and tomato hornworms turn into moths. I don't know if chameleons will eat beetles, but if you let the worms pupate and turn into moths, then the chameleon will eat it.

Another thing that helps with their diet is buying calcium powder to dip the insects into, to help their diet.

How long do chameleons stay with their parents?

Actually, they don't. Chameleons lay eggs in a hole- they can take up to 24 months to hatch, depending on species. When they hatch the babies go hunting bugs and hiding from predators. No involvement of the parents.

Can chameleons live with crested gecko?

Most chameleons are housed in a screened terrarium due to the lack of humidity they require. A crested gecko cannot sustain life in a screened terrarium due to the humidity that they require. These two species would never come face to face in the wild, therefore should not be housed together within the same terrarium. Animals of different areas/continents/regions cannot be housed together. They would require completely different heat, humidity, lighting, mistings etc..

Chameleons are tropical or sub-tropical reptiles. Most live in trees and hunt insects. They avoid predators by changing their skin color to that of their environment. Some sub-species of chameleons such as anoles can be found in large numbers in the backyards of Florida. They are an important part of the diet of wading birds such as cranes and herons. How much do chameleons cost?

What is your definition of a common chameleon? There is not a species of chameleon called "common chameleon" if you mean the kind of chameleon most often seen in movies then you are probably referring to the veiled chameleon who's price ranges anywhere from forty dollars to two hundred dollars depending on where you purchase them. You should be warned though that chameleons are not often social animals and do not do well when handled. They will get stressed out very easily and cease eating and drinking regularly if too stressed and can subsequently die of dehydration.
