I can say for sure, but I had ALWAYS bitten my nails - I LIKED biting them! - it was never awful, just habit I enjoyed. Recently I had been having some digestive problems and it was recommended that I put a table spoon of apple cider vinegar in 8 ounces of water and drink at least 20 minutes before each meal (I usually only had time to do it twice per day). I was also doing many other things prescription and supplement-wise to try to aid in my digestive issue. At some point (after 2 months) I was in my dr.'s office filing my nails and a women sitting nearby said, "Oh, I wish I had my nail file. I meant to bring it." I just made a comment to her that I had never before needed a nail file as I always bit my nails and kept them short, but that they were now growing so long and I didn't have the compunction to bite them that I needed to file them. The dr.'s nurse overheard me and she said it was probably because of all the good nutrients I was now putting in my system. I hadn't really thought about it, but that did make perfect sense. Anyway, to try to make a long story shorter... in the past month I noticed that my nails were no longer strong and growing and I thought back to what if anything I had changed in my diet regime and I found that the only thing different was that I had stopped drinking the apple cider vinegar in my water! Really, I don't know if that was/is THE factor, but I am now starting to believe that it very well might be. I think I will get back on my vinegar to water ratio (one tablespoon per 8 ounces) and see if my nails start growing strong and long again. As a side note, the taste of the vinegar water is a little difficult to get used to but really not that hard. I just drink it quickly and its done. If anyone tries this regime let me know if it worked for you. Of course per standard operating procedures, as I am not a healthcare provider check with your doctor before you start any new dietary change or regime.
