Can a fireplace fumes kill a cockatiel?
It really depends on how close to the fireplace you have your cockatiel. SMOKE KILLS. Even YOU can die because of smoke inhalation. Sadly, having a cockatiel in the same room as a fireplace is not going to kill it, I tried that in the past to get mine to be quiet. However if you have them within a small area around the fireplace where the fumes are the most intense, Yes, it CAN and Will kill the bird.... so, if you are looking for a way to terminate your bird, sit the cage on the mantle, and build a very smoky fire. The bird will just go to sleep, and never awake again....

If you have a cockatiel for 7 year should you get another one?
Yes, in some cases they can get jealous so keep them in separate cages, put the cages fairly close together. I have heard that cockateils that are brought up from chicks just by humans are more laid back and friendlier. Like introducing a new puppy into your home where an adult dog has had all the attention, it takes time and patience. I just got a puppy 7 months ago and my 3 year old Bichon Frize loved the pup, but was a little jealousy. I just spread myself around a little more and always gave the adult dog the first bit of attention and also fed her first. This lets them know they still retain their pecking order. I also have a cat Molly and she didn't seem to worry one bit there was a new pup in the house. Pets (whether dogs, cats, birds) are really no different than humans and have their own personalities. Some birds, dogs or cats are possessive of their family, while others take it all in stride.
With your first bird always praise and give it attention first, then do the same with your new bird. Get that other cage and sit it next to the cage of your adult pet and let them get to know each other for a few weeks and gradually introduce them to each other.

If your cockatiel is tame and interacts well with you, you may not want to introduce another 'tiel. The reason is that they may bond and ignore you!
I recently added a new parakeet for my male to have a friend. He was beginning to think he was a cockatiel until I did this. He has become less interested in me and more interested in the other bird now. But since I plan to allow him to breed with her next spring, I don't mind that. They are still as entertaining as ever.
If you introduce another 'tiel into the house, do so with some care. Allow them time to adjust, and do have separate cages. But also allow them to interact outside their cages with each other as long as you have a bird-safe area in which this can happen (if you don't , you need to create one, birds shouldn't be in cages all day!). See how they get along. They may move into the same cage like my cockatiels have -- or they might not get along at all!
Just remember: if your 'tiel is tame, you are risking losing some of that bonding if you get another bird of the same species. If you are getting the parrot bug and wanting another bird, consider a parakeet (budgie), a handfed lovebird, or if you can put up with some noise, a small conure or Quaker parrot (if you are in a Quaker-legal state, not everywhere are they legal to own)

Why did your cockatiel die breathing heavy and could not fly why?
Then we noticed that our other cockatiel was acting strangly, she started to wobble on her perch and was trying to cling onto the side of the cage. then she just couldn't hold on any more and fell to the bottom of the cage. She also had the same symptoms as the other cockatile did. She was breathing heavily, squwarking, and was trying very hard to fly, but couldn't. She managed to stay a live a little bit longer than joe did. We wraped her up in a tea towl, but slowly she died.
We are very shocked at this and have tried numerous website to find out what happened, but many have not given a proper answer, or want money out of us to give us the answer.
Please can you give me an answer as to why they died... it is a real mystery?
We feed them the right amount of food and water each day and also kept them in the right temperature too, could it have been poisoning? We have not changed their diets or environment.. could it be toxic in the air or plants?

If there was chirping in the egg, the bird was alive but not able to break the shell. No chirping today probably means it is no longer alive. Tap a hole in the egg and see if it continues the process.

If it is scaly face mites, then I was told to rub petroleum jelly on the cere and feet. If it is red mites in the feathers then you can have the vet give you medicine or you can try the mite spray sold at the pet store. I have a parakete who had unusual symptoms so I started doing research, and this is what I learned along the way. But, if your bird seems uncomfortable, then I reccommend you take it the vet to make sure.

It is possible you have 2 males - Birds will mate with the same gender, and When it comes to cockatiels there are only 3 mutations you can visually sex, and this is only if they're a year old, 1) Normal Grey - Males have yellow heads, Females do not 2) White Face - Males have White faces females retain the grey body color on their heads 3) pearls - Males lose the pearl markings by 1 yr old, Females Do NOT lose them. Any other mutation and you will either have to make sure its at least a year old and if its showing signs of a female (quiet) or showing signs of a male (loud, Wolf whistles, Beak Bangs on objects like perches and toys) Or get it DNA Tested

also you did not state how long they've been mating, A week, 2 weeks 3 months, you did not state if they have a nest box attached to their cage. Or their ages IF they are not at least 18 months old PLEASE deter them from mating even if it means putting the male in a different cage then the female, Allowing a bird who is under age to have babies can be deadly to her, Young birds have a higher chance of being egg bound, not being good parents, and not taking care of the baby correctly which in turn the baby or babies will die, if the owner does NOT know how to hand feed birds correctly.

How do cockatiels survive from predators?
Cockatiels are parrots and, like all parrots, they have two main means of escaping predators:
- They tend to fly in flocks, which provides them some protection, as there is safety in numbers
- All members of the parrot family fly erratically. This makes it more difficult for predators such as hawks to catch them. Hawks soar and fly smoothly but they cannot follow the erratic path of a typical parrot.
I believe you can get tetracycline over the counter, but make sure it's kept fresh. Make sure the bird is also getting sunlight and vitamin C. Always keep it warm and out of drafts.

My budgie does that sometimes, he usually does that when he's stressed or scared, I just put my hand in the cage and slowly and softly stroke him on the side of his neck and whisper to him saying it's ok, he calms down then. But if your bird is constantly breathing heavy I would recommend seeing a vet, they should allow you to pay the fee in installments (well they do here in Australia)
