You have to start with trust. Taming a cockatiel take a while and one wrong move could ruin all your work. Start with standing next to the cage and talking to your bird. Do this for about a week so your cockatiel gets to know your voice and is calmer around you.

Then you could try putting a fresh vegetable (in your hand) next to the cockatiel and hold it there. Don't force the cockatiel to get closer to your hand - this will scare him/her. You need to earn trust.

Originally, what I had was some pellets made for the bottom of cages. You are supposed to replace them every two weeks or so. But-this was costly, annoying, hard to manage, and SMELLY.

I had the brilliant idea of just putting newspaper on the bottom of his cage. It looks nicer, it's way easier to handle, it's easy to clean and take out, and-best of all-it DOESN'T SMELL!

What i did was i clipped my cockatiels flight feathers and recorded his name on my cell.Then i put my cockatiel in his cage (where he feels comfortable) and put my cell phone in there with the recording of his name.It kept replaying his name over and over......Till the point when he started chirping the rhythm of his name and soon enough after a couple of days he was able to say his name.
