Coffee Maker - Cleaning with Vinegar

Over time, mineral deposits from the water you use, build up and clog your coffee maker.Cleaning coffee makers with vinegar once a month will dissolve these deposits and will also allow you to wipe clean accumulated coffee stains.

For a regular 12 cup coffee maker:

  • Add 1 cup (250 ml) of warm water to the water reservoir followed by 2 cups (500 ml) of white vinegar, then run the coffee maker through a brewing cycle.
  • Discard the vinegar solution and clean thoroughly with water.
  • Run the coffee maker 2 more times through the brewing cycle with just plain water to rinse out all the vinegar.

By cleaning your coffee maker regularly, you will not only get rid of clogging mineral deposits, you will also eliminate coffee oils that can accumulate inside your coffee maker and become rancid.

There is no doubt about it, a clean coffee maker will produce a better tasting coffee!

When was coffee invented?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

The history of coffee goes at least as far back as the thirteenth century.

It has been believed that Ethiopian ancestors of today's Oromo people were the first to discover and recognize the energizing effect of the coffee bean plant.

The story of Kaldi, the 9th-century Ethiopian goatherd who discovered coffee, did not appear in writing until 1671 AD and is probably apocryphal.

From Ethiopia, coffee was said to have spread to Egypt and Yemen.

The earliest credible evidence of either coffee drinking or knowledge of the coffee tree appears in the middle of the fifteenth century, in the Sufi monasteries of Yemen.

By the 16th century, it had reached the rest of the Middle East, Persia, Turkey, and northern Africa. Coffee then spread to Italy, and to the rest of Europe, to Indonesia, and to the Americas.

Current is always I[A] = U[V] / R[ohm], unless more complex AC functions are required to calculate actual power (instead of the Volt-Ampere rating which feeds inductive loads as well).

Are Bunn coffee makers and distilled water good idea?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Not unless you put distilled water in the water reservoir to begin with. The water in an automatic drip coffeemaker is heated and then is "showered" over the coffee grounds in the brew basket. Many coffeemakers come with some sort of water filtration but none that I am aware of distill the water as it works its way through the heating and brewing process.

What kind of coffee maker is a k cup coffee maker?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

"K-Cup" is a delivery system for coffee. The coffee is prebrewed, condensed, and placed into small "k-cups". The k-cups are then placed into a k-cup machine and the coffee is mixed with water and poured into a drinking cup.

This is a totally untrue answer. Keurig is the company with the "k cup" maker. The K cups are tiny sealed cups with ground coffee above a tiny filter below, and the machine punches a top hole to inject hot water and a small bottom hole to dispense into your cup. Clearly the above person has never used a Keurig coffee maker. It is far better than discribed. The k cup contains raw grounds of many flavors which is the attraction.

Can you put instant coffee in a coffee maker?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

It is a bad idea. Hot water, straight from the faucet, contains more dissolved minerals (calcium, assorted salts, etc) than cold water does. It's simply because of the temperature...more solids can be dissolved in hot water than in cold.

The same minerals that cause the scaling and "hard water" deposits in your bathtub will also clog up your Mr. Coffee. There are coffee machine cleaners (chemicals) that help remove these deposits, but eventually they'll build up so badly that the machine is ruined. Using hot water, rather than cold, will ultimately shorten the life of your coffee maker.

== == == == * 1 part Lemon Juice to 4 parts water * 1 part White Vinegar to 4 parts water * 2 table spoons Citric Acid to 4 cups water * 1 part baking soda Mix 1 cup warm water and 1/4 cup * Commercial products Out of the list, white vinegar is the most commonly used cleaning agent. It is not necessary for you to purchase a commercial product. However a commercial product that contains dual cleaning agents, one for oil and the other for minerals, may give better results.

# Mix the cleaning agent with water in the pot or carafe that you use to make the coffee in. # Pour the cleaning mixture into your coffee machine in the normal way you add water # Insert a filter into the coffee machine basket. Do not add coffee. Without a filter hot water may splash from the machine and leak through the basket. The filter will also catch any dirt or calcium that is cleaned from your machine. It is OK use a permanent filter as long as you want it to be cleaned too. # Before you start, you may want to move the coffee machine to a well ventilated room. Depending on the cleaning agent, the cleaning process may create an unpleasant odor. # Turn on the coffee machine and run it through its normal brew cycle. TURN OFF THE HOTPLATE as soon as the brew cycle has completed. # Leave the cleaning agent in the pot for 10 minutes to allow it to remove stubborn stains. # This step is very important: You must run the brewing process using clean water a MINIMUM of two more times. This will remove any residual cleaning agents from your machine. Any residual chemicals in your coffee machine will make the next pot of coffee you make taste bad. Most coffee machine models will have specific instructions listed in their owner's manual for cleaning. Try looking up the manual for your coffee machine here on YouserGuide. Who invented the coffee maker?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Coffee makers date all the way back to the Turks in 575 A.D. But it wasn't until 1818 when the first coffee percolator was created.

This coffee pot became known as the "cowboy pot" because so many cowboys had begun using it. between the years of 1835 to 1850, coffee makers began to completely saturate the marketplace. Everything from glass balloons, to pressure steamers, to grinders and roasters had all started to become available.

In the year of 1890, the Manning-Bowman Percolator started to get distributed in the United States. These percolators were made out of linen with a cloth that had to be cleaned after every use.

It wasn't until 1912 that a paper filter was finally introduced. This help coffee makers explode in popularity since the clean up was so much easier now.

In 1963, the first ever automatic drip coffee brewers and fluted disposable coffee filters were invented and available for commercial use thanks to George Bunn (Bunn-O-Matic Corporation).

It was 1972 when home coffee makers became available thanks to Mr. Coffee.

How do you clean a burned glass coffee carafe?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Try adding a tablespoon of table salt and a half cup of hot water. This will create a course sludge that will (with a little elbow grease) power through the burnt carafe. If this fails, run some vinegar through your coffeemaker - a good preventative maintenance task for any coffeemaker - and let the carafe soak for a bit with the cycled vinegar. The acid should help break up the burn. Try adding a dryer sheet to some warm water and let sit over night.

How do you prepare a cup of coffee?

User Avatar

Asked by Sainathgr

There are a great many ways to brew a great cup of coffee.

The basics, however, are universal.

You've heard it before... maybe you've even said it. " I make terrible coffee!" Don't panic. Brewing delicious coffee isn't difficult, you simply need to mind a few details. The following tips cover most every thing you need to know.

Buy whole bean coffee. Buying and storing our coffee in whole bean form keeps delicate oils and aromas where they belong - in the bean - safely locked away from their primary enemy, oxygen.

Store unopened bags of coffee in a cool, dry place. After you open the bag, store unused beans in an air-tight canister.

Don't buy more coffee than you'll use in a matter of weeks.

Always grind your beans just before brewing... and be sure to choose a grind appropriate for your brewing method. Grind coarsely for use in a coffee press, less so for a vacuum pot. Grind the beans fairly fine for auto drip.

Always use fresh, good-tasting, cold water. Brewed coffee is about 98% water, after all. Measure your coffee. Tastes vary widely, but a good place to start is between 1 and 2 tablespoons for each 6 ounces of water. Too little coffee won't make a weaker brew... it'll make a bitter brew. If your coffee is stronger than you like, you can always dilute it with additional hot water. Brew your coffee using clean equipment. Whatever your method of brewing, start with sparkling clean gear. Enjoy your coffee immediately... or store it for an hour or two in a thermal carafe. Don't let your coffee sit on a warming plate.
