Does drinking water make you less tired?

User Avatar
Drinking water makes you less thirsty. Drinking Coffee makes you less tired. Water has no nutrients and bottled water is no better than tap water. Please check your facts before deleting someone else's post. Drinking water actually gives you energy, because the nutrients in the water are good for you. (if the water is bottled water and pure)

Asked by Damaris Breitenberg in Word and Phrase Origins, Coffee

Why is coffee called "joe"?

User Avatar
There's no consensus on how coffee got the nickname "a cup of joe," but there are a bunch of theories, some way more plausible than others. The most likely is that other nicknames for coffee—"java" and "mocha"—got smushed into one word, "jamoke," which got shortened to "joe" over time. The next theory in terms of plausibility is that "joe" has a long history of standing in for the common man, and since coffee came to be the common, everyday beverage, the two were a natural fit. There are other popular theories—like the one claiming "joe" is an homage to Josephus Daniels, who banned alcohol on Navy ships in the early 1900s and thus sparked an uptick in coffee consumption among the crews—but they're not very well proven.

Can you grind coffee beans in blender or food chopper?

User Avatar
You can, but it probably won't do a very good job. The more even the grind, the better your coffee will taste. Considering how cheap (blade) coffee grinders are (they can double as spice grinders if you want to get more out of it), you might be better off just going out and buying one. If you want a better cup of coffee, buy the bur grinder. They are more expensive, but they grind more evenly and more slowly as well, keeping frictional heat from building up and improving the flavor.

Does coffee expire?

User Avatar
Yes, it goes bad. Coffee is a time sensitive product that will oxidize and go stale. Several things will accelerate the process. Direct light, heat, refrigeration and air to name a few. Keep your coffee sealed in an airtight container, and in a dark, cool place. -- There are ways to age coffee. It's becoming more popular among the gourmet set. About.com has a good guide on aged coffee. http://coffeetea.about.com/od/advancedcoffee/fl/Aging-Coffee.htm

Can christians drink coffee while fasting?

User Avatar
You decide what you are fasting. There are different types of fasts. You can fast anything. You can do a fast where you only drink juice, or you may only drink water and eat crackers, or you may just not eat meat and sweets. The important thing about fasting is the condition of your heart and why you are fasting. It is all about the spirit that you do it in. There is no set rule about what you fast or for how long. God will honor your sacrifice if you fast in the right spirit. Please read Isaiah 58. It will tell how to fast acceptably to God.

Does coffee stop your growth?

User Avatar
No, but coffee makes you stay longer in the day, when your sleep time doesn't in the growth hormone time (9pm-1am) then you will grow more slower Coffee stunting growth is an old wives tale! I even asked NPR's favorite family doc, Zorba Paster if my two year old daughter would be harmed by the coffee she loves. (She started getting into and eating grounds when she was one.) He said it was fine and that I could give her a demmitasse to have a bonding time when we were at the coffee shop together. Coffee, in moderation, neither stops nor stunts growth. If you were to drink so much coffee that you repeatedly filled up on it and failed to consume nutritious food, well then, you might just stunt your growth if you were not already fully grown. Okay so all morning Iv'e looked up this answer from many, many different places: from Doctors to MAD coffee drinkers to even coffee shop owners. I've concluded that Coffee will not stunt your growth and, yes, its a thing parents say to kids so they won't drink coffee. As said by a doctor who studies coffee, coffee will not stunt growth and it is good for kids who drink coffee and a sufficient amount of milk; it helps them focus in class, as well as many other things, but does not stunt growth. So grab a mug of coffee, call your mom and dad, and rub it in their faces that coffee does not stunt growth. But before I conclude this message, also keep in mind that caffeine has also a drug like effect and a person can become addicted and if a person who is addicted stops drinking there will be side effects. So there you have it, but please, don't tell your kids that coffee stunts growth because it doesn't. If you want to be honest to your kids tell them(this is true) that coffee, if drank in large quantities such as 15 to 20 cups a day, will take away calcium from your bones. Scientists and health officials say that while coffee does not stunt growth it may have other side effects such as headaches, irritability, and interfering with your sleep. It is not recommended that coffee be given to children, as it takes much less caffeine to have these results than with an adult. Coffee is a drug, meaning it is addictive and there will be withdrawal symptoms if you stop; as there are with any other drug. But the fact that Coffee stunts growth is false.
