Yes. It puts a backdoor on your computer used by hackers to moniter your activities. After accidentally clicking a ff link then immediately running a deep inspection scan i found the filefactory virus and never clicked one of those links again.
Can cops hack into your computer without your knowledge?
YES absolutely. However normally the only law enforcement agencies that have ALL the capabilities to do that are the FBI and CIA. Microsoft "claims" that the reason you have to register Vista and Windows 7 online is to combat software piracy, but in fact, it allows Microsoft to scan your PC whenever, and also to allow the FBI or CIA into your computer under the guise of looking for terrorism. They do this through a "back door" that is placed on your computer and law enforcement and Microsoft are not the only ones who can figure out how to exploit the back door. This "right" they have to invade your computer without your knowledge is granted to them by the patriot act.

Is packupdate 107 290exe a virus?
Yes, the "Security Master AV" virus goes by many names, a common theme is the word "packupdate" followed by random numbers.
Here is a video of the attack site in action delivering the virus payload and how it accomplishes it by looking like a system window and getting you to press OK:

I have just avoided opening packupdate107_289.exe
My web browser suddenly said my computer was at risk and showed flashing
"9 viruses found" under My Documents etc... but it was just a hoax.
The webpage shows a picture of Explorer showing viruses in your folders, and suggests you download packupdate107_289.exe immediatley to fix it!
I downloaded it... but didn't open it until I had updated virus software and run a scan.
As I suspected! The scan flagged up packupdate107_289.exe as a virus and has quarantined it!
If you did open it after downloading it, read this advice:

How do you remove all data before recycling a computer?
"Back up your entire hard drive, your computer should have a program that allows you to back up your hard drive. If not, buy an external hard drive or a flash drive at least 8-16gb, and copy all the files in your hard drive to the external drive."
I do not believe this to be an adequate answer to the issue.
The question is how do I remove all data before recycling the PC, not how do I back my computer up.
To completely eradicate all data I have used several methods.
I have an old microwave on an extension cable in my garage that use to initially microwave the hard disk.
I insert the hard disk and then leave the area and flip the switch in the other room. After about 30 seconds I turn it off and come back to the drive. I don't know how safe it is to stand in the room at the same time so I would recommend against it. The drive causes the microwave to create bright sparks during the microwaving period.
The next stage is to physically degrade the drive. Microwaving it has probably degraded the magnetic platters but you cannot be too sure.
You will need to use a large metal mallet and strike the drive several times until it is completely destroyed. I should be in 2 or more peices before accepting that it is no longer usable.
At this stage you will be able to recyle the remaining computer parts safe in the knowledge that it is unlikely that someone will be able to access your data.
Some people will claim that you can zero the drive 10 times and achieve the same result of making your data inaccessable to anyone.
They are wrong, instead I recommend completely destroying your hard disk to ensure complete safety.
Kind Regards
Peter

Imgburn is not a virus. However, the author of this program has inserted quotes into the status bar of the program that will appear during normal use. If you find these offensive to you or don't like them, they may be turned off through the program's settings menu and will not interfere with normal operation.
Can A Virus Affect 2 or More dual boot entries?
No that's almost impossible. you see, if you have two different OS on the same computer than the CPU that data travels through is totally different. therefore unless you upload a system.wr.CPU.32 in a flash drive, (which is pretty much impossibe to get ahold of because that virus was deleted years ago and no one knows how to make it) it cannot happen. hope this helps- ryan01101

Why isn't creating viruses and malware illegal?
The same as that it isn't illegal to make or buy a hammer, but it is illegal to knock it on someones head. Creating viruses doesn't harm anyone and the person making it can make them for educational purposes only or the program can have legal and illegal purposes. A program that controls another person his computer can be useful, think of logmein where the user of the computer grants access to his computer. However the same type of program can be malicious used by criminals by controlling the computer without the person knowing it.
