they tried to spread the word about God but were executed like Jesus. once though, one of the main people who hated christians was called upon by God and blinded, and God sent him to a main christians home. but i read it in the NIV Bible, so it may not be what you are talking about.

They weren't aware that their Venetian commanders would change course and attack the Byzantine Empire. Basically they started out going for the same reasons as the previous Crusaders.

The total amount of crusades there was 8. The whole point in the crusades was pretty much trying to take over the holy land. Kings, nobles, knights, peasants (serfs), and towns people where involved in the crusades.

The primary cause of the Crusades was for the Christians to win back the "Holy Land."

However the pope did not go to war the leaders were kings such as King Barbossa of the Holy roman empire and Richard the Lionheart of England. France was the main contributor to the crusaders. There were 9 crusades spreading across 250 years so leaders changed often.

Between 1096 and 1291 eight Crusades were fought. Jerusalem was a holy place for three religions -- the Jewish, Muslim and Christian religions. For the Jewish, it was the place where one of their fore fathers, Solomon had built his temple. For Muslims, it was where their prophet Muhammad was taken back to heaven. For Christians, it was the place where Jesus preached and was crucified. For many years Muslim Arabs had control over Jerusalem and they allowed Christian pilgrims to travel through and live there in peace. They even allowed them to build their churches. Then in 1050 a group of Turkish Muslims took control over Jerusalem. They did not tolerate the Christians and many were killed. The Muslims even burned down the churches that the Christians had built. The remaining Christians that were still in Jerusalem sent the worrying news back to the Pope- Pope Urban II. '... Distressing news has come to us from the region of Jerusalem... that an alien people... has invaded Christian territory with pillage, fire and the sword. The Turks have taken some of these Christians as captives into their own country. They have completely destroyed some of God's churches.' (S.O.S.E 2 p49 source 2.8.3 extract from pope Urban II speech). The Pope responded with the first crusade in 1096.

Well in a posative way it made people come to peace, understand each other and be more multicultural. However despite the differences they have settled, lots of muslims deni that the crusades ever happened or it wasnt the muslims fault! ( im a christian not trying to be racist). I also learned in school that the pope was telling christians that if you fight you get forgiven, and the muslims were dehuminising the christians... thanx xxx.

The crusades is not a person it is a holy war between two or more religious. But they were fighting for Jerusalem for different reasons. It was between Muslims and christians.
