The only reason admission is usually covered is that the person poses a threat to himself or to others.

What will happen to you when you are admitted into the psych ward after a failing to kill yourself?

You will typically be placed on an involuntary 72 hour hold w/ suicide watch. If you don't switch to voluntary hospitalization in that time a judge can place you on an involuntary 14 day hold in a hearing. If you don't switch to voluntary hospitalization in that time the court can put you on involuntary commitment for 6 months, which can be repeated.

Details of this vary by state.

How many types of manic depression is there?

  • Bipolar 1 (full manic swings, probably depressive swings)
  • Bipolar 2 (not more than hypomanic swings, depressive swings)
  • Cyclothymia (just hypomanic and mild depression swings)
  • Rapid cycling ( >4 cycles per year, can occur in any of above)
  • Psychotic features (can occur in 1 or 2 near extremes of mood)

Or if you want to go by DSM-IV-TR it has a few different primary codes for various kinds of bipolar disorder and a 4 digit suffix code. So one could say that DSM identifies a few tens of thousands of types.

Should i stop taking lexapro if i feel like my depression is getting better?

Nope ... not without your doctor's approval. Most medications can only do what they are supposed to do when taken as prescribed by a licensed medical professional. To do otherwise totally defeats the purpose of taking the medication in the first place. You may be feeling better about yourself, but you certainly do not want to slip backwards into a depression mode, so, do as your doctor orders.

Is it okay for a person with depression and anxiety to take Straterra?

Strattera (atomoxetine) is primarily prescribed for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and is not typically a first-line treatment for depression or anxiety. However, if a person with depression and anxiety also has ADHD, a healthcare provider may consider Strattera as part of their treatment plan. It's important for individuals to discuss their specific symptoms and medication options with their healthcare provider to ensure safe and effective treatment. Always follow a doctor's guidance when it comes to medication.

Can a sNRI be effective for bipolar II?

I have bipolar II disorder and fibromyalgia. I have very successfully been taking lexapro for months, and because of the pain I was put on cymbalta also. I am now having depression episodes for three days every 10 days. I have no pain though. Am I taking too much antidepressant? Do I need to decide between pain and good spirits?Or can I take JUST cymbalta and cut out the lexapro? I don't see my psych DR for two months and want to know my options.

I'm thirteen and think I'm bipolar?

13 is a very hard age to get a reliable BP diagnosis at, most psychiatrists do not consider a reliable diagnosis possible until at least age 20. I was not formally diagnosed until age 38 even though I know I met the DSM-3 criteria for cyclothymia at 19 and had my first real manic episode when I was 21.

I suggest taking the DBSA's online manic and depression scale questionnaires, printing the results and take them with you for the doctor to read when your parents take you to your next appointment with your doctor.

Is Bipolar hereditary?

The mental illness bipolar disorder is thought to be genetic (hereditary) however we don't know of a specific gene that is responsible for it. It appears that many genes must be present for bipolar disorder to manifest, likely, along with other risk factors. This has been shown in twin studies. While identical twins share 100% of their DNA, if one twin has bipolar disorder other other twin does not have bipolar disorder 100% of the time. The rate of concordance of bipolar disorder type one in identical twins is between 33-90%, according to Medscape Reference.

According to Medscape Reference, first-degree relatives of a person with bipolar disorder type one have a seven times greater risk of bipolar I than the general population. Additionally, major mental illnesses all seem to travel together as offspring of a parent with bipolar disorder have a 50% chance of having another major psychiatric disorder. It's important to note that even siblings raised in different households still show an elevated risk, illustrating that bipolar disorder is not only due to a shared environment but also genetics.

Why would a person with post stroke depression receive a CNS stimulant at breakfast and at midday?

You did not give us the name of the medication you are on so it's difficult to your question. If you would like to repost and give us the name of your medication we may be able to your question regarding the two doses you mentioned.

You should always work closely with your doctor and write down any questions you may have for him/her. If you are concerned and cannot get to a doctor then phone your pharmacist and express your concerns as to why you would be taking a CNS stimulant at breakfast and midday.

Because some of the medications to treat this can be habit forming your doctor is probably giving you limited doses and wants to stretch it out to meet your depressed state (which is very normal.) You will probably be on this medication for a limited time only so again, please work closely with your doctor.

Depression is when you get sad. It can be bad because this can turn to form into Bipolar disorder when you can stay in a house or room for hours without thinking or anything. So if you have depression - you must stay positive because lots of people have it. EDIT: Clinical depression is usually caused by an imbalance in chemicals in your brain, such as seratonin and norpenephrine. It causes extreme sadness in most cases. Depression is when someone is sad, and giving up on themselves. telling themselves theres no use, 'im worthless' stuff like that, and depression links to suicide.

How do you see a doctor right away if you need urgent help with ADD while under treatment for depression as well?

I need to get help for my ADD ASAP. I finished grad school and I'm looking for jobs. It's been almost 3 months. I was partaking in a study for ADD in which I got an experimental drug that did NOTHING for my symptoms. I am disorganized, forgetful, irresponsible, I seldom finish things, procrastinate, impatient, lack tact, can't plan. But then when I get into something, I have a really tough time stopping like crossword puzzles which I did all day today. I'm on Well XL (450 mg). I don't even think it's working at all now. It used to help a bit with organizing and mindless eatin , but not anymore. The unit of the hospital that I did the study with is yanking me around. I need help NOW. No insurance so have to charge it. I can't get health insurance without a job which I won't get until I get this under control. How can I get to see a doctor right away? After reading about the random deaths from Ritalin and some other treatments, I think I want Adderall. Concerta and Dexedrine are next choices.

Can a person with alter ego or bipolar disorder chase a girl till her death?

First, "alter ego" does not really describe a mental illness. It also does not imply dangerousness.

Second, bipolar disorder does not necessarily mean the sufferer is violent or stalks.

That said, if you are fearful about any person and believe the person will chase you till "her death", then you need to talk to your parents and to the police. No female should experience fear in her friendships or relationships. If you are dating someone who is violent or threatening toward you, then you do not have to endure that. Report the person and follow through with any recommendations the police give. Often, the police can get the message across to leave someone alone than if you try on your own.

How do you combat feeling depressed after therapy?

It depends on the individual. If you're still feeling depressed, it might be a good idea to try out other therapies. There are many different kinds of therapy such as:

-Cognitive Therapy

-Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy

-Existential Therapy

-Gestalt Therapy

-Bowenian Therapy

-Multicultural Therapy

-Exposure or Implosive Therapy

or any mixture of these in theory or in practice, which is called eclectic therapy. It could also be that the therapist wasn't a good match for you or this is a new wave of depression. Sometimes, it is good to go out and do things with people like taking walks on a sunny day or something cheerful. If symptoms persist, there may be a chemical imbalance. In that case, look into SSRIs (anti-depressants).

In any case, make sure you always have someone to talk to that you can trust.
