Can you ring your hospital up to get a dnc?
No, you must be refered to a surgeon/specialist who will organise your hospital visit.
Alternatively if there is an emergency situation or if you have miscarried and are bleeding/ in pain etc. then you may go on through your local emergency department and they will then give you the usual questions and further testing and if a D&C is deemed necessary then they will either admit you in or give you a date to come back for the procedure.
You cannot simply ring and order a surgical procedure, you must be first assessed. If you have it and how long you wait will depend on why you need one in the first place. Not to mention any health concerns outside the D&C issue, there are always other factors to be addressed when someone is going under a general anaesthetic. No hospital will take your word for it and book you in.
If you need direction a good idea is to ask your GP. They will be able to ring around and help you organise the details and tell you what is needed from there on out.
What should it feel like after you have a DNC?
A D&C is done for many reasons. After a D&C there may be cramping, similar to that of a menstrual period. You could also feel tired immediately post op.
If you don't have a DNC done can it cause upper stomach pains?
If you needed a D&C and didn't have one, then yes it will cause upper stomach pains along with sickness, dizziness (possible fainting), severe pains and a discharge. If you need a D&C go and get one done now! If you don't you are putting your reproductive organs at risk of a severe infection that can result in you having a hysterectomy.
How long after you miscarry is the dnc done?
typically, after the doctor tells you that you are going to have a miscarriage, he/she will have you wait up to two weeks to see if you can pass the baby naturally. after that time period, you report back to your doctor and they will schedule the d & c. Personally, i waited four weeks after i found out the sac had collapsed just to see if i could miscarry naturally. I was only 5 weeks and they say it is much easier to miscarry naturally being so early in my pregnancy. I just had the D & C two days ago and i feel totally fine. They put me to sleep and it felt like 5 minutes later i was in recovery. I went home the same day after a good hospital meal and a prescription for antibiotics to keep from heavy bleeding and infection. I am so sorry about your loss and good luck!

Can you request a D and C from your doctor?
I just had a miscarriage on 1/23/06 and my ob/gyn wanted me to let it pass on it's own but I could not handle the fact that everytime I went to the bathroom thatwhat was coming out of me was peices of my baby.I requested a dnc and I received that the afternoon on the 23rd.So I would ask as I did.It is hard to deal with a m/c let alone seeing it for days. Therefore if you started the birth control Sunday, and had unprotected sex on Monday & Tuesday, you would not have been protected. You may be pregnant again.
