When do small mammals appear in fossil records?

During the KT extinction event the majority of life on earth became extinct. Small mammals, however, were able to survive this mass extinction.

When do you capitalize a dinosaur name?

A generic dinosaur is uncapitaized, such as "brontosaurus." The only time to capitalize a dinosaur is if it had a proper name (such as "Jack the brontosaurus") or if it was named after a particular person or place (like "Piltdown Man").

If you are referring to a dinosaur using the proper binomial naming system used in science then there are a few rules to follow. The genus name comes first and is always capitalized. The species name comes second and is never capitalized and both names are italicized. As in the example Tyrannosaurus rex.

What is dinosaurs nocturnal?

== == == == I don't think so. They were reptiles which means they were cold blooded and therefore I would think they would be inactive during night because it was cooler. some might have such as troodont's and dromaeosaurs been nocturnal so it would have been easier to get baby herbivores or if troodonts wanted to get mammal prey

What does two halves of the word dinosaur mean and what ancient language do they come from?

Dinosaur is made up of two words that come from Greek, the first word is "deinos", which means "terrible" and the second word "sauros" which means "lizard" or "reptile". So together dinosaur means "terrible lizard". Though this name is not entirely accurate since dinosaurs are not lizards.

What kind of dinosaur is ducky?

Yes they are.

The new phylogenetic classification system seeks out to classify by relationship and not solely charecteristics as the old classification system.

This means, if birds are more closely related to other dinosaurs, than all dinosaurs are to eachother, they will necessarily be dinosaurs themselves. Birds are more closely related to theropods, than they are to sauropods, and as such we can conclude them to be dinosaurs.

Why did some plants survive when dinosaurs became extinct?

No one really knows why some plants survived ,but the dinosaurs didn't. actually scientists think that a meteor didn't kill off the life on earth because the layer in the earth that's supposed to be full of dinosaur skeletons isn't, not at all. they think that something killed off the dinosaurs before the meteor came maybe volcanic eruptions or floods or a disease. No one can know for sure what killed the dinosaurs, but something did and we don't know what it was.

How do dinosaurs sleep?

Like large animals today, Ankylosaurus just slept in the forest and didn't have any dwellings. What animals lived during the time of dinosaurs?

Most types of animals (though not the actual species) we see today lived during the time of the dinosaurs (about 230 - 65 million years ago). Dinosaurs were the prominent land animals. Mammals have been on earth about as long as dinosaurs, since the mid- to late Triassic. Birds, descendants of dinosaurs, have been around since the late Jurassic. Other familiar reptiles, such as lizards, snakes, turtles, and crocodiles were also present during the time of the dinosaurs (snakes being the latest to show up in the fossil record, during the late Jurassic - early Cretaceous). And, of course, there were plentiful arthropods (insects, spiders, millipedes, etc.), fish, shellfish, corals, etc. Other creatures no longer on earth that were living during the time of the dinosaurs include many different forms of marine reptiles, such as plesiosaurs, mosasaurs, and ichthyosaurs, and the flying reptiles, pterosaurs. All of these types of animals died out when dinosaurs went extinct at the end of the Cretaceous.

Did cave people ever exist when dinosaurs did?

Cavemen didn't actually exist technically.... We know that the dinosaurs died out approximately 65 million years ago. On the other hand, the earliest hominins (our ancestors) only appeared about 7 million years ago. When people speak of 'cave men', they usually mean the Neanderthals - although all early humans lived in caves if they were available. The Neanderthals lived in Europe from about 200,000 years ago. So, cavemen certainly did not exist when dinosaurs did.
