Should you get a divorce after your husband's affair?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

No short or simple answer to this sorry. Very often, affairs of married men stem from their desire to prove that they are more powerful than the norm, that they are capable and deserving of many things, many women and many pleasures. It is how men are genetically constructed. Women on the other hand often have affairs because of love or desire to feel more loved.

Should you go back to a cheating husband? Firstly one must ask "was there some dissatisfaction or boredom or strained relationship that led him to wander out? Why did he have an affair to begin with?" Secondly as Dr. Phil says "the biggest predictor of future behavior is past behavior". So chances are good that he will have another affair at some point. Science has shown that men who have secret affairs usually feel younger and stronger because the testosterone levels, the endorphine and the serotonin levels increase. It is very very hard, biologically, to move away from these happiness-causing hormones. Thirdly: most men would feel some level of guilt about the breach of trust and the risks of breaking their family. It must be asked: does he want me back because of me? Or because he is afraid of losing respect in the community? Or is he afraid of being labelled in society and at work and in his professional circles and in his religious gatherings etc?

Therefore you must decide whether to go back to your husband and:

a) accept the continuation of a dissatisfactory or boring or strained relationship?

b) expose yourself to the risks and heartbreaks and hurts and disappointments of yet another affair in the future?

c) always live in an air of uncertainty wondering if he wants you back because he genuinely loves you or if he wants you back merely to retain his control and power base or to soothe the pains of his guilt and protect his reputation?

Finally you must ask what are your prospects if you leave the marriage? Very often, it does not turn out nearly as bad as one fears!

Can my cheating husband still have right to my child after divorce?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

  • When two people get divorced because one of them cheated the spouse that was cheated on is certainly hurt and angry and wants to lash out. The child should always be put first. Even though your husband cheated the courts may possibly allow, for the sake of the child, that there be visitation rights.
Answer

Yes. Infidelity in a marriage is quite common. It is not a legal grounds for denial of parental rights as part of a divorce. The child's father will be eligible for shared custody and visitation rights and for the sake of your child you should keep your marital problems to yourself and help the child enjoy a good relationship with her father.

Generally, parental rights are curtailed only when the parent is deemed unfit. The factors used to determine that a parent is unfit are generally governed by state laws with child endangerment being the determining factor. The following include some of the reasons a parent may be declared unfit:

  • physical, emotional and sexual abuse
  • excessive discipline
  • failure to protect the child from abuse by others
  • failure to report abuse of the child
  • neglect- failure to provide food, clothing, proper hygiene, necessary medical treatment, schooling
  • failure to provide proper medical care
  • failure to provide day to day parental care
  • serious illness or disability
  • mental illness
  • substance abuse or addiction
  • alcoholism
  • criminal activity and/or associations
  • incarceration
  • conduct or conditions that are seriously detrimental to the child
  • abandonment
  • child endangerment
  • leaving the child unattended or in the care and supervision of a child or otherwise incompetent person
  • a failure to provide adequate supervision
  • unsafe living conditions
  • a medical condition that makes it impossible for the parent to adequately care for the child

Why did Jeremy Pearsons get a divorce?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Jeremy Pearsons, a speaker and outreach minister of Kenneth Copeland Ministries, divorced his first wife, Amy Cranmer Pearsons, in May of 2006.

Following the divorce, Amy posted a message, dated May 28, 2006, to her MySpace page in which she alleged that Jeremy had been physically and emotionally abusive during much of the marriage. The abuse, according to Amy, was a regular occurrence and often resulted in bruises. Amy said she reported the abuse to Jeremy's family, most of whom occupy prominent positions within Kenneth Copeland Ministries, but that they did nothing to stop Jeremy's abuse. Instead, she observed, that throughout the divorce he was given prominent preaching assignments including televised sermons in which he dispensed marriage and relationship advice.

Jeremy remarried about one and half years later on September 1, 2007. His new wife is named Sarah Hart Pearsons. She is a worship leader and speaker.

How do you change your name while waiting for divorce?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

To change your name involves a few steps. You need to start with your driver license and change it with the DMV. They will send you a new license. Next you take that to social security and change it on your social security account. Once that is done you can open a bank account in that name or change an existing account to your new name. Then, change your other accounts like charge cards, car insurance, rental agreement, car payment ( you may have to get your ex to sign the pink slip) and make sure you change it at work with the business office so your paychecks come in your new name. There are others that I may have left out that you need to inform of your change, but those are the major ones.

I don't think Statute of Limitations applies to alienation of affection.

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

He might feel that he can not talk to you. Have considered brining in a impartial party (ie counseling) You need to try to open the lines of communication in your relationship. If your husband is not talking to you, who is he talking to? Ask yourself that question. If you could come up with an answer compare yourself to the people that your husband are talking to. See if there are similarities that your husband can relate to and differences that may compell your husband to talk to others. Maybe your husband is not talking to anyone which means that he has alot of pinned up emotions about the relatonship, in that case I suggest tha you guys enter some couples counseling.

How do you ask for a divorce nicely?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

It is very difficult to declare your desire to end your marriage without your spouse being very hurt and upset, but that doesn't mean you can't ask nicely. Ask your spouse to sit down with you with a mediator present and gently say that you feel that your marriage is not working out and that you feel divorce is the solution. From there, questions about legal arrangements, division of property, prenups, and custody of children (if any) or pets (if any) will arise. Keep your cool.

Is sexual abandonment grounds for divorce?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Actual abandonment consists of the unjustified leaving of the marital home by one of the parties. If one of the parties leaves the marital home with the consent of the other party, there is no abandonment. Another form of abandonment is constructive abandonment, which is the unjustified refusal to engage in sexual relations with the other party. Again, if both parties consent to not engage in sexual relations, there is no constructive abandonment by either party. At the time of the commencement of the action, the abandonment must be one full year. This is in New York You have to see what your state considers abandonment by statute
